it says that because in a hatchback the hatch area is still considered part of the passenger compartment. when the nitrous bottle is there you must have it so if the valve fails it vents the gas outside the vehicle. There is somthing you need called a "blow-down tube", if your kit didnt come with one you can order it seperately (if summit/jegs dont have them pm me and ill give you a link to one) you have to attch this tube to the side of the valve and drill a hole/find a drain hole and run the tube out under the car.

the bottle brackets must also be mounted to the frame/body of the vehicle (not a piece of wood etc.)

if you do these two things, the bottle location will pass tech inspection, there are a couple other things you need to do to maximize performance however

I wouldn't put it up there Matt. It'll be in direct sunlight, and plain view for anyone who wants a bottle. Those back windows aren't cheap to replace if someone smashes it.

If you insist on installing the nitrous, I would stick the bottle in the spare tire well.

if you take out the box from that extra glove compartment in the back it becomes a nice place to put a bottle. it is out of site and still fairly easy to get to when it is time to refill
