Exclamation Need some help

I replaced the O2 sensors that were bad, new ECT(the one for the ECM), Hoked up my scanner and everything is reading normal. Car runs great, normal idle. What else could be causing these levels at inspection?

Car has manifolds and all emissions hooked up.

This is a re inspection, values all increased after replacing sensors. Original values were 3200 +or-.

If this is your firebird then its the aftermarket cam.. once you put a aftermarket cam in it the car will never pass the Sniffer!!

Yeah it's mine. If there is no hope for passing the sniffer I guess I have to look to other means.

Dave,

You have functional cats and such on this car?

Can you hook up TTS Datamaster and give us a scan?

There is a cat. Thinking of replacing with new. I have to get a serial to USB cable to plug in to my laptop. I have a snap on mt2500 so I figured I could just use the cable and connector from that. Then I can do some data logging.

Air/Fuel ratio is rich. Why? Well that's for you to diagnose and repair!

I was thinking the tune as well but unfortunately theres no way for me to get it tuned properly without tearing it apart to figure out the cam. Right now it is my DD so having it down for a day or two to tear it down isnt a viable option right now.

it most likely not an emissions friendly cam, there are cams out there that you can use that will still allow you to pass the sniffer. It's much easier on a OBD2 car because there is no sniffer, they just plug it in

I mean a car that has any kind of big aftermarket cam in it will more then likely not pass emmision. If you have a LT4/LS6/Cheater cam then it might pass.

Big cam != fail, and small cam != always pass.

I had a small cam, with a tight lobe angle and it would fail. Big cam with larger overlap in a bigger cube motor, prob may passs. Details are fun.

I was get a few datalogs of the car, send em to PCMforless and try to get it worked out with just the narrow bands. Tough part will prob be the shift tables and where you want WOT etc to be.

What kind of injectors are on there now and if you could, see where your duty cycle is next time you hit WOT.

Edit: Also depending on how much you really care bout knowing the exact cam specs.. you could pull the intake and attempt to degree the cam. Would at least get you a approximate number on lift at least, and from there you could calculate overlap etc.

I dont know if Dave would know the size of the injectors or what fuel pump is in the tank. We tried to figure it out but they look stock. We need the S/N off the injectors to find out if they are stock or not. We could get a Fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail to see if there is a aftermarket pump in the back as well.I know the car dynoed 287rwhp @4000rpms yesterday. The car has stock heads, and stock manifolds. So basically with Catback, CAI, and cam are the mods.

Do you have proof that an aftermarket cam is, in fact, installed?

Fuel pressure won't really help much, as long as its not an adjustable regulator, the FP will either be stock, or too little, neither really indicate much excecpt for a dead pump or good pump.

Really, the easiest way would be a dyno tune, but good luck finding a compentant LT1 tuner locally.

The HP number is a little high for a stock cam through an auto, I would guess hot cam sized cam may be in there.

Another option would be to pull the current tune and see if its a stocker or been modified.

Honestly, unless this car is running at 10:1 and has some beat cats, you aren't getting those numbers down.

It's a 1 cat car. It is factory style and there are no breaks in the welds on the y pipe or behind the cat so it's not gutted. Could very possibly be bad though. I'm just waiting to do headers with a cartted y pipe. Trying to run a history on the car to track down past owners to maybe get some paperwork. Longshot but ya never know
