will 4th Gen 17 in. wheels fit on 1st Gen ?

I know this has probably been asked many times before, but I can't find an answer at the moment...

I'd rather not use spacers

They will physically bolt up, but I am 99% sure that the backspacing isn't correct.

im 99.999999% you wont even be able to get a lugnut on. i tried putting 4th gen rims on my 2nd gen......no spacers or anything. i couldnt even get a stud through a hole before the tire backed out against the body. the backspacing is so different between the years, its not even close. as an example: 4th gens, and most all cars these days, have the stud holes in the rim right out on the far edge of the wheel. older cars, like 1st/2nd gens, have the holes (where it bolts to the car) near the center of the wheel. resulting in several inches differance.
