I recall it taking a few weeks. It certainly wasn't quick.

I think once it is past due you HAVE to go in person anyway.

Maybe it depends on how overdue it is. I re-registered the Malibu after it expired online with no issue.

Yeah, maybe if you're under a year you can do online. If over a year they want the back registration, that might be what I was thinking.

they do?

I've re-registered on the due date. I just print the receipt and throw it in the car until I get the card. I'm sure it hits the system well before I get the card if you get pulled over or whatever.

I just recently tried to renew online and it wouldn't let me. The form said I had to mail it in by xx date otherwise I'd have to go in person. I did so and it got back to me before the end of the month. I think the mail by date was about mid-month. The only time I got a temp registration was when I ordered LE plates. They sent me a normal registration and a few weeks later my LE plates/registration came in. It didn't cost me additional for the temp registration. It came in the mail as well.

I like how they stopped perforating the cards. How many pennies are they saving now???

Technically, you will only get a warning. You can give them an expired registration no doubt and you still pass. I'm 99% sure you don't even need a registration card presented at inspection and you'll still pass for that.

FWIW, I recently renewed my reg. online and received it in the mail in about two weeks - it was pretty quick.

Possibly...I know they scanned the barcode on one of my docs (can't remember if it was license or reg.) at the Paramus Inspection station, but they do look quick at everything. I was in and out in 5 minutes - OBD II FTW!

If you give them a regi card, they will scan it. It puts the vin and license into the machine. If you don't have one or its expired, its an advisory and they have to tell you that you can still be pulled over and cited for it.

Seems legit.

You can go through inspection with no windshield, so long as it passes the plug in or sniffer test and isn't commercial plates.

Ah, that's what it was - makes sense!

I just looked on my regi envelope. It says if its not mailed in by the 10th of the month, you have to go in person.
