I'm doing the same thing. But it will certainly cost you money. Joining a club like NJFBOA gives you the opportunity to get advice, help when available, and plenty of people selling parts. While you can usually find what you want from a large group of tuners and enthusiasts, it may take you time to find what you want at the right price. If you absolutely must have the car on the road as soon as possible, find a local mechanic and open the check book. If this is just a weekend car, have patience.

The guys who are selling engines will usually post in the classifieds section when they have one for sale. Look back over some of the older posts, some of these guys have extensive lists (SmokingSS comes to mind) but will require a hike up to where they live at a convenient time for all.

Is there anything in particular you are looking for in an engine? 305? 350? carb? FI?

Yea, I wish the damn thing was supercharged, but no, it was a 305 carb, the guys who had it before me threw a rod... Nasty cement mixer sound...

As of now, I am considering staying carb, but i have the harness and everything to go to TBI... Unless anyone can weld a 350 block for me... It has a crack about 1.5" long outside the block under the exhaust ports, it's only covering the water jacket... But just a 305 would be fine for now.

I wouldn't mind paying the extra cash from a shop, but i'm on a very tight budget, have no car to drive now, and I am restricted on places i can work... but that's life for ya

Sounds like you're on Probation. Or a teenager. Sometimes they feel like the same thing.

I would think that restricted on places to work just means whatever is within walking distance or near a bus stop.
