2015 Z06 unveiled

probably the first of the big boy c7 vettes

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...5-Corvette-Z06

Quote:
The new Z06 delivers levels of performance, technology and design that rival the most exotic supercars in the world,” GM North America President Mark Reuss said in a statement.

The 2015 Z06 features a new LT4 6.2-litersupercharged V-8 engine and the debut of a new GM developed eight-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says the 2015 Z06 is the first Z06 model to offer a supercharged engine, automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a removable roof panel.

Also available in a seven-speed manual, the Z06 is scheduled to be available in limited quantities late this year, with volume production beginning in early 2015, said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer.

Pricing is not available. The 2013 Corvette Z06 started at $77,590.

“If you could afford (a) previous generation Z06, you’ll be able to afford this one,” Juechter said.

2011 Z06 Base was 74,300. I don't think that a completely upgraded interior and new, supercharged motor make that extra 3 grand crazy, especially at that price range.

I like it, just gonna be pricey. Kinda scratching my head over the fact it has less HP then the GT500, and the GT500 is 55,000. Also the GT500 has a smaller motor. The Z06 will be faster but HP does help sell cars. If I were looking for a 600+ hp car and saw that the GT500 has 662hp for 55,000 and the Z06 has 620hp for over 100,000, thats a selling point for Ford right there. Gonna be interesting.

Still going to be a much faster car - both in acceleration and top speed. That guy at the Atco meet was running 11.5 at 120 all day with a Stingray - another 170hp does a lot of good.

Don't think the Shelby is the same type of car as the zo6...2 completely different vehicles....as one should put the zl1 against the Shelby. New zo6 is a badass, hopefully gm starts getting rid of 'em quick to bring down the c6zo6 prices for me...

IDK.. The GT500 does 0-60 in 3.5 second and top speed of 202mph, the rumors are the C7 Z06 0-60 is 3.4 seconds and top speed of 200 mph.

Also over on the vette forums its been made that the car that has been shown to the public is a Z07 optioned Z06. The base Z06 does not have all those carbon parts, wing, brakes, and may not even have a Supercharger as other rumors are that GM is starting the car @ 79,000 and a Z07 will be in the 100,000 range. just like with the release of the C7 last year, all those cars were fully optioned out Z51 cars. They didnt really show off a Base car.

These are all rumors right now.

Either way I am glad they released this new Z as the price of the C6 Z's will start to really drop!

I think their argument was that you are comparing a car that can autoX and drive awesomely to a car that can go straight line fast.

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 0-60 mph 3.5 Quarter Mile 11.5
The base Stingray with 460Hp and 465TQ is an even match for the GT500, it would be a drivers race. The 2015 Z06 with 160HP more wont even break a sweat over the GT500.

Those C7 Stingrays were running 11.5 all day long at the track rental.

Very true.

To me though HP does help sell cars.. You can say people who buy mustangs dont buy vettes.. But thats not true. I have a Vette, F-body, and Stang. A lot of the people in the Corvette club have Mustangs and Vettes. I hate to say it but when you think of american sports cars you think of the Corvette and the Mustang as the 2 all time american sports cars. I love my f-body but they really got hurt from 2002-2009 when they were not making the Camaro, and they are still hurt because a lot of the Firebird owners dont want a Camaro.

I am sorry for going off on a different topic, and I am not trying to start any kind of crap, just explaining why I compare the GT500-to the Vette. I understand that the Corvette is a world class supercar but the GT500 and the ZL1 are turning into that as well. Look at the fastest laps @ the Nurenburg ( I suck at spelling), and I believe the ZL1 is up on that list now in the top 25 for production cars! These straightline cars can do a whole lot more nowadays for a lot cheaper then a c7 Z06.

Your absolutly right, in the 1/4 its a driver race, but what MPH does the Stingray run compared to the GT500 in the 1/4??
