painting the underside

I was thinking of hitting everything that I can with a sander/wire wheel, spraying it with a rust converter and using regular flat black. Then I thought, why not go with rustoleum type flat black in addition to the rust converter, what do you guys think?

I'm a big fan of Rustoleum. I painted my firewall and front framerails with it a year ago, and it still looks good. Besides, you want as much protection on the underside as you can get; not like anyone is going to see down there, especially once you lower the car.

I wire wheeled the underside of the chevelle, then Por-15'd it. I actually used Eastwoods Chassis Black semi gloss and that stuff looks really nice. Im sure their Flat Black would look good too!

Im planning on doing that too Ted, let me know how it comes out.

I was looking at POR-15 or Rustbullet.

POR15 fades if its not topcoated..but only if its ina area its hit by sunlight..not under a car..and if it does fade its only the color not the protection..

If i recall the application process for rustbullet is easier then por

I picked up some rust converter from the local hardware store, it's guranteed for 5 years and is also heat resistant up to 800 degrees. I also picked up rustoleum flat black. I'll have pics of my progress later this weekend

Try Rustoleum's " Hammered" paint it easy to touch up, they have some colors , very durable too. I'm thinking of doing my whole bottom of my car in Hammered Silver. it makes "Spohn's Red parts really stand out. JR1.

I saw that "hammered" paint and was thinking about it. I still may do it, but in black. I also have red suspenson components (spohn and UMI) I did the heat shields and everything in regular flat black, the hammered may be a nice way to go for the actual bottom of the car, I'll have to think about it.

Clean it with simple green and a power washer. Then paint it with POR-15 and you can topcoat it with Chassis Black from Eastwood.

What I did was opened up a photobucket account, it's free. (photobucket.com) You can upload the pictures there from your PC and host them anywhere. You would use the [IMG] link provided with each picture that you loaded and simply copy/paste that link in the message box on this site. . If you need more help let me know

Social Networks:

when you are viewing all of your pictures in your photobucket account there should be three text boxes under each picture. Copy the one that begins with the [IMG] tag and paste it into your post.
