How did you make your LTjuan into 24x?

I want to see what you guys did to make your LTjuan have 8 coils. I replaced my opti at 110k in this car, so it is running strong. I see guys posting that the prices have gone down for the conversion... I'm just curious to see what you guys did and what did it cost you? (blow and brian are the only 2 I know that are super srs LT1 guys)

They are serious lt1ers because they got rid of their opti's? This is news to me.

I bought all the things from EFI connection. Matt did a DIY with his own harness. Both worked just fine so its up to you with time vs money. What is your specific question?

BLS hit the buy now and got a pretty harness. I shudder at the cost.

I repinned my stuff and it works but I have a couple gremlins left to kill. Cost for me was under 500 for sure.

The whole thing, but before you get all excited... I run a vortec dizzy for cam sensor and I sourced most of the LS1 parts for free.

Only paid for the DIY kit and crank reluctor wheel from EFIconnection basically.

I don't understand why you need or want 24x. My opti spins higher than these guys and works great. I know they have their reasons for needing 24x, mostly tuning and stronger spark, but there is no reason to blindly abandon the optispark.

Big costs for the complete kit were the harness (around $800ish), billet timing cover, new coils, PCM, coil brackets and other items to keep it complete. I would be confident if you sourced items used and did a DIY harness, you would be well under $1k.

As Sweet mentioned, if you opti is working for you, no need to switch honestly. I did it primarily for all the reasons he mentioned.

Back when I was just H/C, I never had an issue with the opti or a decent dyno tune. Your mods are still easy enough to get right with a mail order. It's tough to support the cost of switching to 24x IMO.

I just wanted more info on 24x. I don't plan on doing it unless I really have to. my opti is perfectly fine lol

main reason for 24x for racers is you can spin the piss outta the motor. and reports of 30hp just in going from the lt1 ignition to 24x conversion

Main reason is added rpm capabilities, actual 2bar tuning, HPtuners/EFIlive support, and tuners numbering more than two.

But hey, hurray for optis and old PCMs

I consider myself a pretty serious LT1 guy and my Opti has been with my motor for quiet some time and it works just fine.

Spinning the piss outta the motor is the main reason I would like 24x.

Unless you have a pre 95, you have an OBD2 port.

Edit: Lulz, you are screwed, would have to wire in a new ADL port.

Simple, buy the plastic port from a junkyard or online vendor and wire it.

Couple grounds, a line or two to PCM and a hot lead I think.
