QQ Plates

Got QQ plates for the LeSabre today. Had to get a copy of the title because I couldn't find it. Folks at Flemington DMV were extremely pleasant and helpful.

No more inspections - yay.
3000 mile per year limit. LOL....be lucky if it gets three HUNDRED!

Time to scrape off that ugly inspection sticker and drive over to Paul (RPM -a scant 3 minutes away) to see where to start breathing new life into it.

BTW....what is needed:
1 - Title
2 - Front and side photos
3 - Application (got at site)
4 - License
5 - Registration

Cost me about $110 for copy of title and plates. (Also added BOAT to license for 12 bux).

Now if only I could get a garage so I can put classic insurance on it.

actually mom and dad had original replaced with a jasper by bridgewater motorworks 50k ago (against my advice).

does it make a difference?

Yeah Collectors is the one with the mileage limit. Historic plates there isn't one unless your insurance company imposed one because its insured under a collectors policy.

This is the QQ thread so I'm gonna ask here. My brother said from what hes found on the QQs you can run the rear plate only. If this is true I may have my front bumper holes for the bracket filled. The plate looks out of place on the front. So is it true that cars under historic registration can run only the rear plate?

well, no inspection required anymore and i dont plan on putting front plate on, but i think it's still the law.

So who knows. I say if the car looks like hell just run the rear plate. Some cars (my Nova) have front plate provisions built into the bumper so it flows very well.

And keep it in your glove box but you might seem like a dick to the cop who pulled you over. I think this law was originally for cars with no provision up front, like a Model T etc.

Ok guys, technically, my car doesn't have provisions for the front plate. They had to make up some hacky looking front bracket to be able to run them on the front bumper. It looks much cleaner without it. I guess this is where the cop's mood will make a difference. I just don't want to go through the trouble of filling in the holes if its 100% illegal. But it seems even the state code and laws are conflicting on the issue.

There is a reason have gone out of my way to not go to the Flemington DMV for historic plates, THEY DONT KNOW WTF they are talking about.

I put it all in a thread already, but the long and short was the lady said the front sheet metal I had on the car was not correct for my year car. I really wanted to jump over the counter and punch the lady in the face. My cousin said he doesnt like that woman either when he has had to deal with her.

Before they opened their new facility, the reps at Flemington told me to go to Trenton on a Saturday morning to get my QQ plates.

Trenton historic is closed on a Saturday.

I'll have to see what I want to do when I get there. If I get this thing going again, test runs will probably be done with the front plate in the windshield.

As for the DMV and getting the plates. I went in 09 down to Trenton I believe during the week, and I was in and out of the place in 10 minutes no questions asked. Now however I'll have to put the car back on insurance for 30 days or so for plate renewal.

And I also stand by no mileage limits with the historic plates. Its the Collectors plates which is used on cars newer than 25 that have a 3000 mile limit. An example I can think of off the bat that would use Collectors plates would be a McLaren F1. Never officially imported here but was allowed through the Show and Go laws (or whatever the laws are called) Under the law a car imported under those laws is limited to 2500 miles a year. Once they turn 25 though all the rules go out the window.

Mileage limits with Historic plates are mostly due to collectors insurance limitations. Though some companies couldn't care less how much you drive it as long as you have a true daily driver.

You dont have to have collectors insurance for Historic plates. I am just trying to reinforce that the state has restrictions in place for you to be able to drive the car, they make no limitations on mileage though. I think people keep confusing all the rules here.

If your insurance imposes a mileage restriction on your collector car that is up to them, but it has no tie to the historic registration. IMO if your insurance company restricts you like that he/she should look for another insurer.
