Have a question for the guys running long tube headers on OBDII O2 sensors with ory pipes on their LT1 camaros. I have a 97 z which I'm in the process of putting a 396 stroker in, I know the car is a OBDII setup. I'm looking to get extensions for the front two O2 sensors. I running hooker super comp long tube headers with hookers ORY pipe, do I need to get the flat connection or the square connection? I think I need the flat (rectangular) connection. Also what length would be good for both driver and passenger side O2 sensors 12" or 24"?

Also have one other question being that I have the exhaust in mind. I decided to go with Golen's 396 stroker Lt1 motor. As you know after reading my top question I have hooker long tube headers with no cats. after my ORY pipe I have a slp loudmouth 1 cat back system. Is this car going to be so loud that I'm going to want to shoot myself or will this car have some tone to it? Chad over at Golen states that this motor has one monster of a cam in it, Will the cam help to change and clean up the exhaust coming out?

In my opinion headers into an LM1 will be obnoxiously loud and drone-y.

As for cleaning up the exhaust, what do you mean?

I mean just better sounding, I want it to be loud but also sound good as well

Fronts require a flat connector. I used 12" on my pacesetters

Then IMO that's not an LM1.

LM1 is loud for the sake of being loud. The exhaust tone is not really a good one (to most people) and the drone gets old fast. A chambered exhaust gets my vote for loud and "good".

I have long tubes, no cats, and a magnaflow catback and get compliments on it. Its loud at WOT with tone and its a pretty tame idle. You can't really hear my cam through it though, which can be fun

Lt1 w/ Lm1 will sound horrible. if using the Lm1, I would at least install a dynomax bullet muffler or 2 in the intermediate pipe.
I have heard lt1s w/ lm1 and no cats, lt1s w/ open headers sound better than they do with lm1.

here is a tip.
install your lm1, spray paint a line from header collector to where the I-pipe goes over axle.
after car warmed up, take car for a good beating. then look to see where the paint stopped burning off. at that point where paint is still clear, install bullet muffler.

(this burn off line is a old timers trick, supposed to be ideal placement for muffler to provide the most torque.)

Yup. Same trick for crossover pipes and cutouts.

Its raspy as hell.

That being said, having pretty much had every style of exhaust on my car... go with a nice mellow catback and a cutout.

Best of both worlds. If you want that really obnoxious slow LT1 sound, get two cutouts, one off each header.

thanks guys I'm going to see what it sounds like after the motor install and try dynomax or maybe even kooks ... i hear they now make a true duel exhaust setup for 98-02 f bodies I might go with them so long as i can have brackets made up to attach the pipes to the car

A mufflex system would be cheaper. That kooks system is too much money for my taste.

It's going to be REAL LOUD!

I have longtubes, catted Y, Mufflex4" I thought my car was loud until I parked next to Schweet97Z = stock block GM847 cam, longtubes, ORY and loudmouth. You could tell my car was running!

Another option is not to dump the LM, but all a muffler/resonator in the intermediate pipe.

IMO nothing sounds better than a properly built true dual system on an LT1. Necessary? Hell no. But the sound is 10x better than any shelf y-pipe set-up out there...
