another emissions thread

just went to reinspection and failed the HC emission test... it was 1048ppm im told New Jersey only accepts 220ppm so WHAT CAN I DO!?

on a side note the car is going off insurance at the end of the month and going back in the garage until next summer, so if i dont go back to reinspect it and just wait until next summer will the records still be in the mvc system or will i have to risk getting a failure to repair or something???

*When was the last time you change your spark plugs?

*Last time you ran fuel system treatment through your tank?

*Has the timing been change on your car since factory? If so advance the timing this should help the HC count.

*Oxygen sensors running good? maybe causing the car to run rich.

* does your car get to normal operating temp? if not you may have a lower temp rating thermostat causing the car to stay in open lope longer causing the car to run to rich.

*Overall HC is to much fuel or misfire causing unburnt fuel.

*Also give the car a few hard Wide open throttle runs while driving clean the car out doesnt hurt.

*also possible your cats are bad. thunderbolt racing has cats for $40 each will get you to pass.

*air filter is clean?

* any vacuum leaks? this also can cause high HC

* head gasket leak?

Did you check to see if your car emits 1.21 jigawats of electricity?

check all of the above, and when your done, throw a bottle of Guaranteed to pass in there to clean up the system and cats a little.

Hydrocarbons = cat situation. it being that high either means you have no cat, or its bad.

for a new cat to go bad that fast your car would have to be running really crappy. is it possible yes but try everything else
