T-56 problem
hey guys. i need some advice. so i took the camaro to work today since its been sitting for awhile. on my way home i stopped at a few dealers to look at newer trucks. well i was driving and heard some metalling clang noise sounded like a rock or something hit off my exhaust. car drove fine no problems. after i got done at the dealers i was driving home and went down my friends road. i was in first about 10mph and got on the gas to do a burnout. right before i got a chance to shift into 2nd i heard a loud pop. after that the car started coasting like it was in neutral. got out looked under it. no fluid leaking, no parts on the ground. driveshaft was the first thing i looked at. looked perfectly fine. started the car back up. fired up like normal. great oil pressure. holding temp great. put it in each gear 1st through 6th and reverse. let out and give it gas and the rpms just start to go up like its in neutral.
my friends dad thinks it may be the slave cylinder that blew and since its in the bellhousing there isnt any fluid leaking out. (but the clutch felt great like normal)
i am running a monster stage 2 clutch rated to 525hp/tq. so its rated well over what im putting out with my 6.0 replaced the slave cylinder which was supplied by monster. and i am running a stock clutch master. if that helps. and its not like i abuse the car all the time. i only take it to the track every now and again and i dont normally do burnouts i just like driving it normal with the every now and again of getting on the throttle a bit.
when i pushed the car into my friends driveway it rolled easy no noise from the rear at all so that should be fine. and there is no noise from the trans when i give it gas.
all helpful opinions would be great. and i really dont feel like hearing people make fun so please just leave that out of this thread. my week has already started out ****** and this didnt help at all.

put it into gear, than start car. if lunches foward than bad master/slave.
otherwise you have a
clutch disc. that seperated from hub
broken input/output shaft
blown diff
put in nuetral and turn driveshaft by hand, if car doesn't go to move when trying to turn d.s. than you have diff/gear problem. that will eliminate rear probability.

well i pushed the car from the road into my friends driveway maybe a couple 100 feet and i didnt hear any noise coming from the rear.
how would it work if i tried to put the car in gear and start it. do you mean put it in gear start and just basically pop the clutch?

dont guess, just pop the cover off and make sure. I would hope its the rear and not anything in the trans.
You said it goes into gear fine right, so turning the car off and starting it in gear wont make a difference.

with vehicle running, put in gear and let clutch out. have someone look underneath to see if d.s. is spinning.
if it is spinning= rear problem
not spinning = trans/clutch problem.
that would be the easiest and fastest way to eliminate which part is bad.

Yup. This is what I would do. Isolate the issue first.

well i dont know if it helps but i didnt hear a damn thing besides the exhaust when i had it in gear giving it gas.
wouldnt i hear some sort of noise if the driveshaft were spinning and the gears were screwed up?

not neccesarily.
if the input shaft broke (not to common) clutchwould just spin it freely internally.
usually if a disc seperates you will a hear a grunchy noise when letting the clutch out or in.
and the rear won't always make noise when its broken. depends on part thats snapped/stripped.
lmk on the outcome of the procedure I stated above.
I have seen all kinds of problems where the car wouldn't move while in gear.
sheared flywheel bolts, stripped splines, spun axles, broken planetaries, bolts sheared on ring gear, spun splines on the rear yoke, etc. etc..

now that im thinking about it. when i was checking out the road for any parts or fluid that i might of lost i did notice there was only one light burnout mark for my right rear tire. so maybe something in the rear let loose. who knows
(i have heard ppl say the monster clutch will find the weakest link in the driveline) and a 10 bolt with 114k prob didnt like that 6.0

UPDATE: got the car home today after work. got it up on some stands and fired her up. put in gear and drive shaft stays still.
spun drive shaft and both rear wheels spun so looks like its going to be a trans/clutch problem.
and just to confirm there was no grinding nosie while running and when this issue happened yesterday it was no grinding sound just a loud pop.
master cylinder is still filled with fluid. looks like im going to have to do what i dont want to do again and pull the trans while laying down on the garage floor. unless anyone has any other things i could try to narrow it down.
i was thinking of pulling the drive shaft to check splines on the output shaft.
just started it up again to listen a little more for clutch noises or anything. i put it in a couple different gears. i noticed that when i let out of the clutch i hear a slight sand paper type sound for a second or two. and the rpms drop down 200 or so rpms but goes back up after a second or 2.

sounds like you busted something in the trans, maybe and input or an output shaft. Either way, looks like that trans is gonna have to come out.

Call bob hanlon and get a price on having yours repaired and upgraded. You'll be ahead of the game over a used unknown trans.
