throttle valve cable question

so i changed my transmission on my 89 rs

i have what appears to be a newer 700r4, since it had the electronic sensor thing on the speedometer gear housing on the trans.

i go to hook up the Throttle valve cable, and it appears to be wayy too short for some reason. i cant even get the throttle body open more than 1/2 way.

i slid the adjust thing all the way up so i could get as much slack as possible but its still not opening enough. is there a difference in length between the older and newer TV cable?

no difference in lenth.

I cant see how it can be too short. I push the button, shove the little slide all the way in. Let go of the button, and turn the TB all the way to wide open and will pull the cable tight, then click the rest of the way till its where it needs to be

i havent put much effort into it, havent had much time to do so with work and all. and the fact that its not my top priority would be another reason why its not done
