Nope, Pacesetter longtubes. The price was too good to pass up and since I just passed inspection I figured this was the best time to install headers. I'm glad I waited for the weather to get real cold too!

Jan 1st, I don't even have a y-pipe for it yet! I just bought the headers while they were still at a great price. I still need to remove the rest of the cat y-pipe before I can install the headers. But the old stuff is off and out of the way. Anybody have thoughts on the best gaskets to use? I forget which brand I used on the 68 but they held up good. I'll eventually go with dual cats on the y-pipe but I'll just run an off-road y-pipe to get it back on the road. Man, it's so much fun working on a car this time of the year!:cold:

That's the best thing from last night and today, no smashed knuckles, no lost skin and no lost blood! I almost had the ratchet fall on my head a couple of times but I was able to react fast enough to avoid it. I will say that the electric impact gun is a big bonus to have. It's a little too big and I had to jack the car higher a few times but for some of those rusted and stubborn bolts/nuts it's a knuckle saver.

I'll have to wait until there's foursome ready to tee off on the 11th hole across the street so I can fire it up with open headers!

I know one person with that setup (I'm not counting Loudmouths or Rumblers), and he's rockin a domestic rice, DISGUSTING sounding ford focus

:stupid:
When I had my GTA, the muffler fell off once when I was fishtailing out of control (another story all in it's self). I took the coat hanger off that was holding the tail pipe up and threw the muffler in the trunk. Car sounded AWESOME!!! SLP headers, SLP y-pipe, high flow cat and SLP two out the left cat back with no muffler sounds wicked!

how'd the intall go?
what y-pipe are you running and are you running emissions legal LT's or the non emission ones?
Savage_Messiah
12-11-2005, 09:18 PM
I would be he's running fully catted emissions legal ones
JL8Jeff

I got the emission's and coated headers. But I'm only halfway done. I tweaked my back last Sunday so I couldn't work on it and I decided to get new motor mounts while I was in there and they haven't shown up yet. I'll be putting dual cats in the y-pipe after it's up and running. No reason not to run cats since they only cost 3-4 hp. The muffler robs more power than the cats do.

Of course, thats only if you are running on a stock tune. If you want to tweak your A/F for best #'s then !cat is the way to go (because you fry them if you don't take them off).

An offroad y-pipe will work fine(Pacesetter's y-pipe is offroad) until it's time to go through inspection, then you need 2 cats to pass the visual inspection.

Yes, but once you start leaning things out that much it will only be a matter of time before you will end up blowing up the motor. It all depends on what the car is being used for. If the car is strictly used for racing then no need for cats. If you need it as transportation to work then run the cats.

Untill the techs eyes start to water from that smell.

Yeah, buy 1 cat, cut it in half and have it welded to the y-pipe to look like 2 cats. Viola! You pass the visual inspection.

what other y-pipe could you run other than the pacesetter when running pacesetter LT's?
If you run the off-road, other than disabling the rear o2 what else needs/should be done? A/F ratio need to be adjusted?
NJSPEEDER

there is programming to dump in fuel when you go to WOT. it is cat over temp protection or something like that. eliminating the excess fuel also allows you to dial in a touch more timing.
little g knocked off a bunch of time and picked up trap speed when he went !cat.

I think the Jet-Hot y-pipe comes close to fitting but it's very poorly designed compared to the Pacesetter y-pipe. Take a look at some pictures and you'll see the Pacesetter y-pipe is actually built pretty good with more of a "Y" junction than the Jet-Hot. Best choice would be to put the headers on and take it to Mufflex to let them make you a custom y-pipe.
