Tsar, all he did was call you sonny. Respect isn't something given to me or you, since we are only 19 or 20. People often see us as immature and hot-blooded. Don't reinforce the stereotype, just debate the issue. You have some valid points.
Translate it in my language and it becomes disrespectful. I dont give anyone respect based on their age or anything they did, if they act like a dick i will act accordingly. I have plenty of family members who has been in military including WW2, Afgan war, and Chechnya yet they know how to act and dont stick "heroism" in other peoples faces!

Dude, I respect that you are a Vet but c'mon you can't be honest in saying that we are in a war over there....We have been there for over 3yrs and all they did was kill Bin Ladin's #1 man and NOT BIN himself, oh and they tore up all of Saddam's palaces woooooooppppppeeeeeeeedddddddddaaaaaadddddoooooooo ooooo!!! If we are to occupy a country we should be in IRAN because they are a serious threat to us as a country.....And the minute we leave Iraq, Iran we be marching in and trying to take it over mark my words!! Also THERE WERE NO WMD IN IRAQ!! So, shane and john stop saying that there was thank you..

Are you kidding me? Just because im 44 year younger then you doesnt mean im clueless. I work with old people everyday, ive seen more people use those devices in one day then you'll see in the next decade. I can go on and on but its pointless...
So you answer to my question was to invade every single country that was on the list? yea that's a great answer. You know at some point the world will get sick of you invading other countries with false facts, and you might become a second Germany. And yes im aware of "your most powerful military in the world" but you know what? history repeats itself, and if you look at it every great super power has grumbled to enemy that was much smaller, and to a naked eye wasn't really a threat at the time...

The USA does not take anything from another country for nothing and yes the gas prices are a crime , but we are a capitalist society are we not --entrepreneurship is what drives the USA -- IE bill gates, trump, and thousands of others and yes the oil company exes are raping the public, but capitalism is our way of life is it not, you have the right to make as much money as you can no one is stopping you or is it the oil company's don't have that right, well that what the revolution was fought about, i don't like it either but its the way we as a people do business, or have i lost something so tell me weir am i going wrong ?????/ jz

The whole drilling for oil thing was trashed around for 20 years and the tree hugging environmentalist movement won, so that would any company do faced with a supply change ????? they adapted into investing in other country's resources, and a dictator change here and a dictator change their later, with out ruining their country ( we don't run anybodies country ) at times it seems ours fits into that as well ---- the oil we use and need went from people we helped get rich and helped us with out being raped on pricing, to people who hate us for our system that made them rich ( Democracy ) soooo to those who know better than everyone else ( Liberal Democrat's ) we now have what is known as bushes fault hahahahhahaha right jz

Well people blaming Bush for the gas prices is stupid. The thing he can be blamed for is creating an unstable environment in that area which raises concern and worry which "helps" drive the prices up, it's far from the sole reason for it. It's ******** though, it's known that Saudia Arabia has over a BILLION, yes a BILLION barrels worth of oil that hasn't been tapped yet, there is no oil shortage.

who was talking about oil shortage? Everytime time Opec cuts production Russians increase it so they can make more money. And since Russian oil is cheaper it works out for them. There's no shortage its just business and business wants more money. Crap, if i was a CEO of Exxon gas prices would be much higher
Oh and as stated before its not oil shortage the in the USA its that you dont have enough refineries.

All the media keeps saying there's an "oil" shortage, not a gas shortage(unless we're talking about the Katrina time period) and that's just flat out ********.
It's a combo of people heavily investing in oil futures, investors uneasy about all the conflicts, the lack of refineries because of the ****ing EPA, greedy corporations etc.
I miss when gas was cheap lol

ohh i dont watch the news anymore  i didnt know. Doesnt every one have reserves? so how can there be a shortage if there're reserves?
Media FTL...
the shortages that the news talks about are more like "future shortages". Like I said before, New Jersey is home to the largest oil reserve in the nation and when Katrina hit, the price of gas jumped up a dollar in one day. They just take into account the fact that they might not have a lot of oil in the future and jack prices up now to take advantage of it. That and they are very greedy.

Gas prices arent sky high because of Iraq. Gas prices are high because gas companies are giving us the fist-job with no lube. And who's gunna investigate that? Not Bush, thats his buddies. Why would he do such a thing?
While gas isnt as high as the rest of the world, there is no reason we should be paying 3 dollars a gallon.

Its time to move troops out before it becomes a mess.
i don't get the justification here. war is breaking out in a part of the world where we already are, will need to be to protect our interests and don't have to spend a single dime to get troops there. pull them out? doesn't have a sane ring to it.
we should [SIC]of never ****en gone over there in the first place!
if you can't see the reasoning for being there, then there is no hope for you. it might've made more sense to you if one of your relatives died on September 11, 2001. there were 3000, remember?
This will be another huge opportunity North Korea to grow big balls.
Shane, while I support the Iraq campaign to a point Iraq didn't have much to with 9-11.
A) yes.
B) true, but there are other reasons of which have been enumerated several times - and i ain't gonna do it again. imagine if hussein had gotten and maintained control over kuwait... the price you're paying for gasoline now would not hold a candle to the stranglehold he would've placed on the market. all in the name of the almighty dollar. (with him it might've been a power thing, which is why he couldn't accept defeat and invaded them on more than one occasion).
...just pay attention and do your fellow citizens the favor of paying attention to and reporting if you see anything suspicious.
nicely said.
Also, what weapons of mass destruction are you talking of? They did not find anything except some chemicals which he never denied...
please tell me you are not so naive to believe that they aren't masters of the shell game after playing with the U.N. for so many years. hell, he knew that after a fashion, he was going to lose. there's nothing to support the next statement i am about to make, but i don't believe it's outside the realm of the possible, either: maybe he sold them. now, that's a scary thought.
I support most of the war efforts but let's be honest, most of the reasons the administration has given us have been ********.
just because this is true doesn't mean we should abandon the war. 'course, it would be nice for them if we did, because then they would run roughshod over the entire region doing as they please.one thing that we all gotta remember is that the president only has like 40-50% of the power Congress/The House/Senate/etc... has the rest.
now, i know you're too far gone. have fun in la-la land.
i want to spend more time on this subject, but most of you know how i feel anyway. it's still fun poking holes in others' arguments. wading through the myriad spelling and grammatical errors is a bit fun, too.
disclaimer: i am not attacking you, personally. before you get out your big internet gun and blow me and my family away, take a step back from the computer and relax. it's only a discussion. :)
that said, i hope we do not have to get further involved in the happenings in the middle east. but turning a blind eye to what's going on over there could end up being more lethal to us than getting involved.

not necessarily. however, having experience and seeing the world for probably twice the amount of time you have does lend itself to being able to understand certain things easier. it doesn't mean you can't understand the subject, but if you had never seen a three-card-monty game and came upon one, you'd probably lose some money before you figured out that it was rigged against you. a person who had seen one before would simply walk by, knowing that playing would mean a loss of money.
no one wants to go to war. sometimes it's necessary. if people get out of control, someone has to step in and get them back under control, or at least get control of the situation. i wish that not one soldier had to die for this war, but i also wish that september 11, 2001 had never happened. a retalliation had to take place, or the 'terrorists' would've thought that could do to us whatever they wanted without repercussions. if the bully in grade school takes your lunch money and you do nothing about it, then he will continue to look at you as a source of revenue. even if you walk away with a black eye and bleeding lip, at least he won't be back in the future for your lunch money. i know i am breaking it down to over-simplistic terms, but i want everyone to understand the simple principle that war is necessary.
why does it have to be the US that goes to war? in this situation, since we stand for the 'western way of life', freedom, democracy and all that comes with it, and we are the biggest target for them; we are the ones 'dragged' into it. remember, we looked for support all over the world before we declared war (and pissed off a lot of people in the process), but it had to be.
we are not always going to be the most popular country in the world, but i don't see this as a popularity contest. i see this as a defense of our way of life. i see this as a way to continue to have my opinion and the freedom to state it. i see this as a way to continue living like i always have. and you should, too.
take care all,
-jim

So because im 20 i havent seen the world? this might apply to some but im willing to bet ive seen more of the world then an average person. I've been in Russia, Ukrain, Georgia, Finland, Gernamy, USA, Denmark and some country next to caspian sea ( dunno the name of it in english  ) I havent experienced the bad? well since my pops was stationed in all kinds of ****** places during his soviet military career i got to lay my eyes on some big booms and building blowing up too, ive seen a war happened when i was like 6 year old. Yes i do still remember building blowing up, and i do see it in my dreams from time to time. Well that was all before my daddy decided to bounce, and then mommy moved away when i was 11. Do you remember what you did when you were 11 years old? i do, i was walking on the streets all dirty, no money, hungry as ****, and i probably smelled like **** to. Who helped me? no one! dont ever tell me i havent seen an ugly side of the world, cuz i have. I can keep going and going, i can probably write a book about what ive experienced as a child but im way to lazy for that at this time. So dont assume just because someone is older then me he automatically experienced more **** in life then i did.

The age card is an allusion to the idea that time is the best way to gain experience, and hopefully along with such experience wisdom. Age often correlates with experience, so it is generally accepted that an older man is not simply just older, but more experienced.
i hate when people play the age card...
Yet in defending your position on the age card, you site your experiences that have made you more knowledgeable. Would it aggravate you if I told you, without ever being there and knowing only what I have read, that I know twice as much about Chechnya then you? Probably.
Anyways, back to something almost on topic: The UN has many shortcomings, but I look at it moreso as a possible path to take in the future. If we were to abandon the already tattered UN, we would be taking a step back from world peace. Do I think we'll ever have world peace? Not in my lifetime. But striving for peace and the idea of peace through international cooperation is worthwhile IMO. So basically, the UN is debateable, but its values are not. If we think about it seriously though, The US doesn't look like it will pool more sovereignty into a collective, even western centered organization. On a smaller scale, Europe is struggling with the idea of pooled sovereignty in the European Union.

i stated my examples to prove my point, which is just because im young doesnt mean i havent experienced **** in life, or havent seen the world. When someone older comes in he's automatically "knowledgeable" about the world affairs and someone who is clearly younger is almost all of the time dissmissed just because of his age.
You're welcome to go ahead and try chechnya if you so desire, but i think i know enough.

well said young feller -- you will find as you go along in life people who for their own reasons disagree with you on a topic; who are for the most part are themselves left of center, will resort to name calling and personal attacks its like ( drive buy mouth ) they don't have an answer so they spew clichés , or naive rhetoric - its also known as absence of malice when they approach being down right communists --- they really do think they know better, but have no problem letting you get the brunt of a personal attacks --- don't let it affect you in any way, stand on your ideals and don't let it bother you speak your mind and the truth will always win over -- don't jump into the name calling pit its beneath you jz
There is a difference between standing up for what you believe and living closed-minded. I stand up for what I believe, but I do not disregard what other people say either, if I feel it has merit.
Keeping some personal attacks out would be nice though. Ridicule gets pretty boring.

matt, you have no idea what you're getting into by joining this debate. no one cares what you can buy or what you've read on this forum or other places. What certainpeople go through is what makes them credible. that alone is the reason I value tsar's and john jz's opinions. you are 14, you haven't even been through high school yet. your opinion in this matter is worth next to nothing, sorry. you're also wrong for believing that everything this country does is correct. we do a lot of shady things, just like every other country. the only difference is that we're the "big kid on the block" so no one points it out.
I'm also sorry to say that if this thread doesn't shape up quick, its gonna have to get locked. no more personal attacks. please keep this middle east vs. west related. you've been warned :)

Wow, so you're basically saying it's ok to support this country and it's actions so blindly that the mentality of us doing no wrong is ok? Holy ****. I support this country but Jesus Christ, we're not perfect. No one in thread is saying this country sucks or we should revolt and create anarchy. Some people are just questioning the government's actions and motives. Should that not be allowed? Should that be outlawed? Should people who think different than our government be thrown in jail for treason? If that's what you think who is the commie?
I'm not trying to pick on you sir, I respect your love for this country, I share that same love. A lot of my family are in the military and have fought in the wars throughout the last few decades so I understand your deep rooted love you show right now. However, it seems that if anyone speaks out against something suddenly they're labeled as a commie or a ultra left liberal. Guess what? I'm a pretty conservative Republican but I think Bush and most of his people are ****ing morons(though still glad Kerry never got in lol). Anyway, my point is that just because you love this country and what it stands for doesn't mean you can't ask questions. As annoying as some of the questions askers are(not refering to this thread really) they keep us grounded, they keep us thinking...otherwise we'd be mindless sheep led around by the government(though that's starting to happen already)

Some how my point has been taken incorrectly -- i have seen first hand what our government is capable of, agent orange got me 5 years ago was a year on kemo but the VA doctor i had ( your going to love this ) was DR Anwar Feraka from Iraq he saved my life --- anyway to lock this would be in poor taste people need a vent --- we all see things <-------------> hahahaha i as most Americans have been brought up to dis trust leadership of all kinds, and our government is in a bubble they only see what they let in --- that they in turn believe to be true , i guess you and i would do the same thing ????????????? so if you agree with that and i don't know if you do, this is wheir we might differ in the how to do it --- i as you and i have no idea about what is true about the war and what is not i do believe the pressure from the scum on the left in our country will now send marines to jail for life for something no one knows to be true or not --- train a 17 18 19 20 year old to kill in a blink of an eye have him see his brothers killed in front of his eyes --- and than second guess what went down on at what most could understand as the front ( please note 100,000 of the Iraq so called friendlies demonstrated for the hes-bola killers just the other day in Baghdad against America ) same thing in Vietnam their were no friendlies that was a ruse the same guy who smiled at you in the afternoon was sending rockets in to the fire base at night --- so now that the Israels are invading another country to stem attacks on themselves we just happen to be in the neighborhood is it a coincidence you tell me --- ( or as some believe they did this to drag us into their fight ) in war no one is safe no place is safe and the people have no place to go if they try they are killed and we are at war but Americans for the most part feel as though they will never see this in the US this kind of war well we did ( 911 was a road side bomb so to speak ) and just like the Israels went after the easy target first ( FIRST ) Iran is another story the draft will come into play if they cant through iraq show the arabs we are willing to do what ever, to not be screwded with, ( the way it is as i see it )--( show me how i dont get it if you have a diiff opinion ) and i am coming from no political side just as i see it but make this very clear the left in the US is not looking out for america the way and what they report and you know what i mean just a quick note just like the marines in iraq the marines in cuba watching the garbage who would kill you in a flash they the marines are true to the corp they believe and almost to the man will die for our country sure their are those who turn their back and run but as i live and the marines i knew than and now can not believe the liberals who went after them in the press as if they all were in on what went down ( give the devel its dew ) she the girl did end up pregant and i have done some wild **** to get a little hahahahahhahahahahaahahhaha---- you ---- jz

anyway to lock this would be in poor taste people need a vent
yeah people need to vent, but people dont have to back and forth making personal remarks towards one another. if this stays on topic for the most part, I have no problem keeping it open, but if everyone starts calling eachother names and resorting to cheap personal attacks, its gonna get shut down.

Marine mom, is a link to a poem she wrote in 2004 that has been beautifully illustrated and set to music by another Marine mom. You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
When you read the dedication at the end, you will see when I wrote this poem. Karl had just gotten to Iraq and was immediately and unexpectedly separated from his Unit...which included these 26 men who deployed to Iraq with him, the ones killed in the helicopter crash. Had Karl not been immediately needed elsewhere, he very likely would have been on that helicopter. When I heard about the crash on the news, it was so awful and I knew it was going to be devastating to Karl. I knew his grief would be agonizing, but I also knew once he said his goodbyes, he would put his grief aside, and in honor of those men he would do what Marines do...carry on with his mission. As most of you know, writing has been great therapy for me, and this particular poem came to me that very day, so I know God put the words in my heart and gave them to me to share. Some of you have already read this poem, but Julie has so beautifully illustrated, and truly captured and preserved the inspiration for it. I hope it will touch you the way she intended.
