This one won't start till after the 3.4 is done...but here's the idea....I wanna take a 350 and bore it .060 and get a stroker crank for it(388 ). Get a blaster EFI system and a Holley Steath Ram manifold, a set of Dart heads with beehive springs and conver the 700r4 to a TKO.....thats the plan..I'm expecting for about $5,000

Nice plan, but...Why .060? I thought most machinists forwn at that. Why not .030? And all that for $5k - you better be the best used part shopper out there.

yah, better to not go 60 over right away, this way when you freshen the engine you can always go 10-20 over more and only need new piston and rings. Once 60 over your maxed.

What vehicle would this be going in?

besides the EFI, it sounds a lot like my plan. oh and I'll be using a 200-4R instead of a 700-R4...and I'll be running vortecs instead of dart heads....okay so its not that similar afterall

ah the innocence of the first engine build....
do NOT get me wrong... I am NOT ripping on you

what about, distributor? ignition box too possibly? coil?
and dont forget a timing set..
plus the cost of the machine work, thats a biggie, and bearings for everything. Are you gonna assemble it?
Lets also not forget all the little annoying hardware you'll need. head bolts intake bolts etc...if youre building for power stock hardware may not cut it.
Rockers arms would be an advised upgrade too
you say to swap to a TKO... so $ there, plus clutch setup, plus all the hydraulics would be needed.
Is the car already TPI? if not, what about the wiring harness, oh you said an EFI blaster system... you didnt add that in the price.
And with a full build, you need a new oil pump, and a new water pump is also recommended.
Then of course you wont let it breathe through the stock exhaust, so headers and a catback...

its not as simple as heads, block, crank, rods, pistons...

you say $2,5xx now .... well, allow at least 5,000 to be safe

^ What he said. Incedentals (gaskets, assembly lube, RTV, etc) can really start to add up.

o trust me I know all about that crap...This would be my 2nd build, I'm damn almost ready to go back together on the 3.4....gaskets and bearings i haven't looked into a distributor yet, I'll probably go MSD blaster. But I did take most of that into consideration...hence the $5000ish estimate

also look into the CR of the combination of those parts, from quick calcs, it looks to be approx 11.9:1.

bubba428
06-06-2007, 09:37 AM
I'll probably go with the 72cc chamberd head then

Where is the $2k for the TKO? What about clutch, linkages, driveshaft alterations. etc....

How about the EFI costs - throttle body, injectors, harness, ecm , etc...?

All that for $5k, no way. Unless you own a bunch or get super great deals.

bubba428
06-06-2007, 10:12 AM
injectors are gonna be around 250 the harness and Blaster module are gonna be about 800 throttle body i'll just get used and yea 2k for the tko...

ok add that 3050 to 2500 plus 1000 for you valvetrain, and another 500 at least for a clutch... thats 7k easily and add in machine work and other odds and ends(easily a grand)... 8k+ the more you think of it....

L M F A O...... hahahhahah

at least he has a plan in mind....i was thinking like that when i was 15 then reality sets in of how much stuff you need to parts never even thought of...

instead of doing all that....i got a 4 bolt main 350 truck bottom end.... and put a bigggggggg shot on nitrous on it.... lasted me tons of passes...lots of street miles... and was decent on gass...... plusssssss when you blowww it up.... you just spend another 300 on a short block hehehehehhe.... ps...i have a 60k mile shortblock like this for sale now.... just throw some good alum heads on it carbed intake and carb and yourrrrr settt.... it was my under 900 doller killllla motor build with nitrous... and id say times but no one would believe me so i dont....

2 words...crate engine. Lots of options out there for $5K and you can just drop it in and be done.

V
06-08-2007, 03:32 PM
my 383 cost me about 5k all said and done...thats not including trans/clutch. And it was carb'd.
(now im trying to sell it for 1200 actually)

I'd love to just ger a crate engine... but theres a satisfaction of doing it yourself
