Rob_WS6's 97 Tahoe decided that being able to accelerate at a certain green light wasn't necessary. He managed to get it home (wasn't far away), with the sweet sound of carnage and death pleasing his ears. Pulled the cover off to find that a lot of the ring gear ...... is on the magnet.

The bottom left carrier bolt is sheared off flush with the housing, so the cap moved free. We found it towards the front of the center section. How in the heck can the bolt shear off like that? The top-left bolt was bent also.

Close up on the ring....

Summit racing seems to not realize that there are other companies then FORD that use bolts to hold them in, since that the only carrier bolts they list on their site.

So theres a Suburban on Craigslist being parted out that hopefully has 3.73 gears in the back. If not then I guess its rebuilding time. :fluffy:

yikes man yikes. Looks almost as bad as my old toyotas rear that I blew up. That thing was missing complete teeth. And like missing 5 of the 9 pinion teeth. You could still drive it it would just go, turn turn turn SLAM where allthe missing teeth were skipping past each other.

the bolt is probably what failed first, if the housing survived the caps are screwed, the caps and housing are line honed together so rob might be better off finding a junkyard rear for it.

3:73? :)

you mean 3.73:1? :)

Anyways.... got it all fixed Saturday night/Sunday Morning. Much better then it was before so that rear was going out for awhile.
