I read an article in a tire review magazine that gets delivered to my job that that GM will be removing the spare tire from all there upcoming models and replacing ti with a Slime Repair kit by 2010.:| This kit will come complete with a compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter port. The article said that the Slime company approached GM with this idea and GM agreed. The first car to have this done will be the new camaro.

Slime says that this new formula is safe for TPMS systems and can be ridden on for 50 miles and will not damage the tire. I cant find the article online or i would send a link.

Im sorry am I the only one who has a problem with this? So how many cans of slime will i need to repair my tire if it has a blow out?!?!:-?

Spare tires are being removed out of more and more vehicles and becoming an option with a can of slime and an inflator being standard.

The first car to have this done will be the new camaro. The 08-09 Pontiac G8 GT's have this system so, I'd say the info. is incorrect.

i hate that crap. it stinks when you dismount a tire, only works for small punctures, and can make the tire rather off balanced. full size spares are the only way to go.

Which never come in new cars anyway so just go out & buy one ;)

I think its fine, the spare tires they give you now suck balls...I've taken them out of nearly every car I've ever owned because even if you rear tire blows out as stated earlier you aren't supposed to use them on a vehicle with a rear since the tire height difference can f up the rear in some vehicles or the front diff on fwd vehicles. If they gave him the $5 puncture kit I think I'd be fine with that so whats the big deal? lol

Well, what do you do when you have a cut on the sidewall then?

Not to mention most of those kits kill the tire pressure sensors.

Call GM roadside assistance or AAA.

If you are going to possibly be in an area where there is no civilization nor cell phone reception, spend the cash and get a full sizer.
My grandfather purchased and moddified his 81 FS Bronco to handle 2 full size tires because he found himself in the middle of no where several times.

IF you were to buy a new Camaro, or hell..ANY new car that has a large diameter wheel and tire package, you have FREE road side assistance for 5 years, 60k miles.

yeah, which have ample trunk/cargo room, and arent worried about weight.

corvettes havent had spares for years.......your saying you wouldnt buy a corvette because of a spare?

I think 12V air compressors should be standard on all cars. When you are low or have a slow leak you can fill it until you get to where you need to go.

OK, remind me again why import cars are beating the pants of GM. :nutkick:

So when your tire is hamberger you can't do a damn thing until help arrives.

My Audi comes with a full size spare and it has the same rim as my 4 normal wheels.

VW vehicles all come with full size spares. Usually on a steel wheel, but is an option for a factory wheel.

Again, if you want you can always click the option box for a spare tire. They all come STANDARD with repair fluid and an inflator. Optional spare.

aren't vette tires staggered? i would rather not have a spare and have roadside assistance only because i will be the one changing the tire with this **** in it. i hate it that much.

I'd rather have a spare. You can't fix a sidewall blowout or a bent rim with slime. Even if it is undersized. I wouldn't expect a full size spare on a car, I'd rather have a space saver, unless its a truck where a full size can fit with the vehicle
