With timing of the ls motors:
ls1 heads like 24-27 degrees
243heads like 22-24 degrees
all at WOT loads (60-100%) load

I was once told to advance the timing until something breaks then back it off 2*

that's why this page is of such great importance. not everyone knows what timing is, what it affects, or how to set it.

Jim,

I saw that before, it's great. Thanks for posting it up. I'm moving this to engine tech though.

strangely enough, bill, i know where the tech section is. see? found it without a map. and, no, i didn't follow the link from the lounge to get here.

this is more of a general information page than a technical manual. you're still going to have to get more detailed information about your own setup, plus the tools and what-not to get the job done. i saw the page and thought about how many of our younger members might be lost as to what timing actually was. hence, the reason why it was in the lounge. if i thought it was a technical how-to, then here is where i would have started, not in the lounge.

also, i would tend to think that most members hang out in the lounge as opposed to in the tech section, and more people would have seen it there.
