View Full Version : Help Choosing Tailpipes

Hey all, I've got a quick question involving my exhaust, specifically, tailpipes. Recently, my muffler just decided to fall off in the middle of the road. Good timing, for the most part--I was a block from my house and have been looking into mufflers anyway, so it was a good excuse to go out and get one. As awesome as the car sounds without any muffler, local law enforcement would love to give me a ticket for my "issue".

Anyway, I just picked up a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, and I will be sure to post videos of how it sounds with and without the muffler installed soon. To go along with this muffler, I would like a decent pair of tailpipes. Nothing too flashy, but a nice attention-getter would be a plus. I'm just not too sure where to go to get some decent tailpipes. I've tried pep boys--their selection is very limited at the stores near me.

Specifically, they need to be 2.5" diameter pipes to fit this muffler. Any ideas you guys could throw at me? Any websites? Thanks so much!

It's for my 1985 T/A, single exhaust, if that helps.

-Mason

Are you looking for just tips or tailpipes that come out of the muffler and bend to exit out the back of the vehicle? If you check Dynomax's website you will find they sell the pipes that come out of the muffler and bend to exit out the back. I believe they sell them at Rockauto.com as well. Which part # muffler did you end up getting? That will help determine what will work. If you're just looking for the tips, I actually liked the stock tips that came with the GMMG cat-back. Search some of the F-body sites for guys that got the stock GMMG setup and switched to the oval tailpipes and want to sell their stock ones.

Thanks all for the advice. I just recently decided to return the muffler itself to pep boys and buy the full cat-back system from Jegs online. Going with Dynomax, still, #17493. Turns out that Dynomax has a mail-in rebate deal on their cat-back systems--$75 rebate! So for only $125, I'm getting the full cat-back exhaust. I'll worry about custom tips later, once I know for sure what size tips can fit.

Anyway, for the time being, I've uploaded a video of what the car sounds like without a muffler installed. Enjoy, and thanks again for the advice!

Is that all the Dynomax cat-back systems? I'll need exhaust on my beater real soon and Dynomax has a cat-back listed for it.

It's at least most of them....go take a look on Jeg's site. I know the catback for my Jeep is included.
