The AL has the advantage in the AL parks...they don't in the NL parks IMO.

I don't think Lidge was the key in the World Series, you have to look at the fact that they didn't hit **** for average and a majority of their home runs were solo shots...you need men on base. Howard struggled, Feliz just sucks at the plate. They never could get the entire line up in sync. You either had Rollins and Victorino getting on and not having your big bats driving them in or you had those 2 struggling and the big bats knocking them out of the park.

Credit the Yankees pitching for pitching good enough to win.

You are as bad as Charlie, if you can't see when a pitcher or batter is not performing but you want to leave him, you're not going to win. You didn't watch the Phils all year so you have no idea when they are not performing. It's the World Series and the end of the season. If you can't do the job, you should be sitting. Hamels looked like crap the last 2 months, Lidge sucked all season, Johnny Damon slaps it to left field when he has 2 strikes on him, yet the left fielder is playing deep every time! Very poorly managed. Obviously he can't bat for Howard, but his stats actually match his season vs lefties so there is no surprise he struggled. And how many times were the Phils swinging away with runners on base and a 3-1 count? But I honestly didn't think they would repeat since it's almost impossible as an NL team. They had a great year despite their leadership! If they keep the core players, they will be even better next year.

sorry i watched at least 2 phils games a week.

if they had better options on the roster, they would be using them.

Frosty
11-04-2009, 10:28 PM
But Jeff, every player struggles...you go with what got you there. It's a catch 22. Charlie is already 4th in franchise history in wins and he's only been here for 5 years. It's easy to sit here as a fan and say coulda, shoulda woulda. Obviously there are some thing he probably would have done differently but he doesn't take a team to two WS's in a row by being lucky or being a **** manager.

Their pitching just hasn't been there and that's been all year. They got beat by a great team, it was a great series...lets just leave it at that.

They do have better options and he didn't take them. If you want to give Charlie credit for winning last year, you have to give him the blame for losing it this year. Hamels was crap this year. Look at my post before the series started where I said they should put him the bullpen and start Happ. The Lidge thing was going to catch up to him at some point in time so it had to be the WS. Like I said, they had a pretty darn good season despite the obvious shortcomings this year. The pitching couldn't shut down the Yanks, and the Phils bench was worthless at the plate. Unless the Phils lose a key player, I still see them being the favorite for the NL next year as well.

i give alot of credit to the phils. they were the best in the NL again. they have 1 hell of a power line up that unfortunately did'nt come through when it mattered. their pitching is another question. with a few more pieces of the puzzle the phils will be back to the WS on a constant basis. a very good team that just ran into a team with better pitching. and utley is just an unbelievable player:shock:

Phils did an impressive job this season, especially when you look at the pitching injuries they had all season long. That was my biggest worry going into the playoffs. And the best part is that they still have several great young players in the minors who are ready to come up!

What do you guys think about the stupid all star game determining home field for the World Series? That's the dumbest thing they came up with. I think it should go to the team with the best record and it worked out that way this year, but what if the NL had won the all star game and the series home advantage went to the Phils it wouldn't have been right.

Frosty
11-05-2009, 08:29 AM
I never liked that rule...it was a way for MLB to get the players/fan into the all-star game.

It had no bearing on the game this year but it might in future years.

baddest434
11-05-2009, 12:23 PM
to answer jeff and frosty about the all star game determining home field advantage. i did some research and i'll agree with you guys that the team with the most wins should get home field advantage.

my findings were the AL has won 12 straight games all star games with 1 tie thrown in there. and 18 of the last 21 all star games. why can't the NL win these games?

Mike
11-05-2009, 12:32 PM
the same reason the al has won 6 of the last 10 and 9 of the last 15 world series...they are a stronger league

JL8Jeff
11-05-2009, 02:21 PM
Because of the DH the AL draws more of the top players.

baddest434
11-05-2009, 02:40 PM
from nickapedia

In baseball, the designated hitter rule is the common name for Major League Baseball Rule 6.10[1], an official position adopted by the American League in 1973 that allows teams to designate a player, known as the designated hitter (abbreviated DH), to bat in place of the pitcher each time he would otherwise come to home plate, rather than replace him by pinch-hitting. Since then, most collegiate, amateur, and professional leagues have adopted the rule or some variant; MLB's National League and NPB's Central League are the most prominent professional leagues that have not.

so why dont the NL just adopot a rule for a DH?
even up the playing field. how would they go about the idea? through owners votes? or the commisioner?
just a thought good one or bad?

Mike
11-05-2009, 02:43 PM
Because of the DH the AL draws more of the top players.

not really, most of the time the dh is an older player whose defensive skills are eroding, but who can still swing a good bat. most of the games best players still play defense

Frosty
11-05-2009, 02:47 PM
Bill, the way I see it is that the pitcher is part of the team on the playing field, he should be batting.

I think baseball is much more interesting to watch with the pitcher hitting. It adds a lot of strategy to the game on when to switch pitchers and pinch hit.
