Mustang GT will come with a DOHC VVT 5.0 making 412hp and about 380ftlbs of torque.
check out Jalkopnik.com or Edmunds's Insideline.com
Edmunds is reporting that the GT will come in at 3750lbs though.

No pricing has been released, but price wise it will be just a few ticks off a Camaro SS or Charger RT.
29,999 for base GT
32,450 for GT luxury.

3750? wow, the new muscle cars (Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang) are only a few ticks under a fully prepped Crown Vic P-71 @3906
The DOHC is a nice design, but damn is it expensive to do a cams swap on them.
The real advantage the Mustang had over its competitors was it's price and weight. Looks like both are going bye-bye.

with the new V6 they had to give the V8 more power. otherwise the V8 would be kinda pointless

I think Edmunds is wrong. The current Mustang is in the vicinity of 34xx#. I doubt that a new motor would bring up that figure by 300#. If its true, then it lost every advantage it had over the Camaro in driving dynamics. That would be a serious shame.

The S197's were heavier then the sn95's/new edge's and still faster by leaps and bounds...I cant see the addition of the 5.0 making it much heavier. Guess well just have to wait until it comes out. The extra 100 hp will certainly help.

12-18-2009, 10:46 AM
It will help alot, up until recently Mustangs have been fairly slow compared to the competition. And i truely love the 5.0's my buddy had a white procharged 93 gt with a full roadcourse suspension and may not have had much striaght line traction but cornered better then any car i've driven. It had welded sfc, and a full kenny brown coilover suspension kit.

I believe there is a 6 speed tranny also which weighs more and they might go Independent rear on it also!! Also there are 2 more cams which adds 20 or so more lbs and more valves and valve springs. When it comes down to it I can see were the extra weight comes from. Still a Ugly car with very cheap parts. I do not miss either of my Mustangs.

There is no IRS for the Mustang planned untill the next platform.
The 3750 is now apparently a joke of soem sort? Current car is around 3600lbs, so its not that odd to figure it would be 100lbs heaver with a lot more HD parts.
The Mustang's chassis was designed to take no more then 350hp without moddification, hence why the GT500 has a lot more chassis band-aids that help the car stay together.
Mustang does have the 6spd auto and manual trans, as well as several other up to date features.
Foosh
12-18-2009, 10:40 PM
Why is every one doing IRS??? i mean i get it for track but overall, its more expensive and has a considerable amount of things that can go bad.
BigAls87Z28
12-18-2009, 10:53 PM
Its evolution of cars. IRS offers much better poise and agility, not to mention helps on packaging a vehicle.
IRS isnt just for track, but for ride, comfort, and steering and control ususaly feels better with IRS. You also increase the envelope on what the car can do.
The Mustang GT with track package has shown what you can do to maximized a solid axle set up, but it suffers tons over bumps in the road. The Camaro and Challenger have much better ride as well as better performance. While the Mustang's steering is better, the Camaro SS tends to get better reviews as far as its poise on the track, vs the Mustang.
Mustang will deffinatly turn up the pony car wars, something we havent seen since 87 when the fbodies saw the return of the 350.

I'm sure the motor alone will be like 150# more. Twice as many cams and the heads are a lot bigger too. I'm not sure what Ford did with the 2010 Mustang, but the 2008 was around 3400#. 3750 for a sports car is a bit high considering my comparison before was that a fully police prepped Crown Vic with the light bars, push bumper, sirens, cage, radios, and everything else is 3906#. The civilainized P-71 is around 3750.
I really like a lot of the new technology manufacturers are coming up with for new cars, but damn is it going to be really expensive to mod these cars. I mean, with IRS, just ask any Vette guy how much it cost to put a decent rear in there. Then the DOHC motor is a LOT for a simple cam swap. You're looking at like $5k for the rear, and another $3k for the cam swap.
BigAls87Z28
12-19-2009, 07:07 PM
You cant compare the price of an IRS on a Corvette to the one on a Camaro.
Camaro's IRS set up is designed around a much more affordable set up when compared to the Corvette.

********. The V6 went UP in price, when all the Ford fags said that it wouldnt since the 3.7 would be made locally vs the French 4.0.
They also said the V6 would lose weight...it didnt.
They said that the 2010 Mustang woudl be lighter then the 2009?
It wasnt
So far, the only thing that was right was the fact that they pegged the Camaro's output for the V6 and V8.
A unique V8, all brand new transmissions, new brakes, suspension parts...and some how still 27k?
V6 Mustang now starts at 23k, just like the Camaro V6. Gunna tell me the GT is under 4 grand away?

I have no idea what the '11 will be, but the '10 V6 is $20,995, not 23. And the '10 GT is $27,995. Weight wise, the V6 went up 35 pounds- to 3380, 370 pounds lighter than the V6 Camaro, and the GT from '09 to '10 went up just 15 pounds, to 3455, 495 pounds lighter than the '10 Camaro.

2010 Mustang starts @ 21,000 and weighs 3400lbs. It has 210hp and 240ftlbs out of a 4.0 liter. Has basic options that pretty much every car comes with.
2010 Camaro starts @ 22,680 and weighs 3780lbs. It has 304hp and 270ftlbs out of a 3.6 liter. Gets better gas miles, comes standard with power seats, satalite radio, mp3 player, remote trunk release, and hands free communication system. Also has an airbag for basically every section of the car!
2010 GT weighs 3534 and to get a GT that compares with the SS you will need a premium GT which starts @ 31,000.

This car should put fear into everyone under the Camaro team. Ford finally has put out a really solid product, and its not wearing a Cobra badge.
MY2010 is still the Year of Camaro. 2011 will most deff be the Year of the Mustang. 2012 though....Camaro gets an MCE along with convertable, and a special edition or two. GM is making serious bank on the 5th gen, but they need to go back into the car and tweek the steering and suspension packages, pull a few moure pounds out of the thing. and really hit the Mustang hard.

If your friends don't wanna join this site, that's up to them, but where is there "a bunch of talk about mustangs"? Where do you see multiple polls and/or threads where the majority of responders have voted or said they would be purchasing a new Mustang over a new Camaro (or a used Mustang over a used F-body)? Where do you see anything on this site that says that the majority of people here don't care about F-Bodies?
As of the time I am making this post there are 15,927 threads in the Lounge.....only 67 have the word "Mustang" in the title. That's less than 1/2 of 1%
There are 133 threads on this entire site with the word "Mustang" in the title out of 39,518 total threads. That's 1/3 of 1%
Sure there is some talk about the Mustang here - it's the age old Camaro / Firebird rival, and it's going to be mentioned once in a while. I dont have any problems with that as I have owned every gen of f-body except 1st ( total of 8) , 2 mustangs, and 2 dodge Daytona's in my 12 years of driving. my friends are a little more Die hard f-body owners who 1 owns a 69 T/A, one owns 2 89 turbo T/A's and a 3rd gen firehawk, and the other just has 6 f-bodies. They are also old school in there 40's.
I love this site and try to promote it whenever I get a chance to. I always give out this website to f-body owners when I meet them.

id rather trash talk a fwd four banger import than hate on a rwd v8 american car. i really dont mind mustangs in a few years...anything before 72 is sweet...not a big fox body guy....only sn95 i like is the terminators and i really dig the 2010 mustang. big deal get over it.
if you go around the fbody community a lot of them hold the terminator mustangs in high regards.
read > If gm made a camaro that drove as good as the new mustang then id be interested in those too.

This isnt some high end club, and this isnt some Ford-fan site. What this site consists of is good friends, good times, and overall fun. If your friends dont wana be a part of it, thats fine.
I made this thread, and no one dislikes Ford more then myself. But I like the hobby and I like the rivalry between the two cars.

the rivalry is good, maybe it will pressure gm into making a new z28

You like what you want to like. Thats fine I have no problem with that. Like I said before At one time in my life I had a 98 Firebird, 88 GTA, 79 Formula, 96 Gt and a 86 Shelby Daytona all at the same time.
I hold the Terminators in high regards but if you gave me a choice between a 98 Camaro or a terminator I would pick the camaro. Hell I would pick my Firehawk over it also. Its like my uncle. He still has his 69 GTO that he bought brand new. I asked him why not get a new car? He said since they stopped making them in the early or mid 70's its become a rare car to see on the road and its like owning a part of history.Thats the way the T/A's will be or have become. Its like owning a part of american history. Thats the way I look at it. Its more then just driving an american sports car its driving a car that touched so many lives and wont be out again. I dont know if you get it but when I drive my T/A every red light I stop at I always get nice car or man I miss those T/A's from the people next to me. I never got that in my mustang's.
In my eyes a mustang is a Me 2 car. Its like having a honda. I never felt that way untill I owned my 96. I started to notice that there were mustangs everywere. I wasnt happy driving it because it felt like driving my grandmoms taurus. I look out my window right now and see 5 mustangs parked in my little 30 space section of my apartments parking lot. Thats just me. Most of you probably dont feel this way and thats cool. I mean everytime I start up my car at my dads house ( thats were we keep both cars) I always get about 5 people that come over from all the neibors houses and start chatting about the T/A's. My cars arent really that loud it just reminds them of a certain point in there lives and for me makes me 5-10 mins late because I dont want to be rude to them and not listen to there stories.
