View Full Version : Trouble with Island Dragway

Well, idk what it is with Island, but after my car broke down (not one single pass down the track, broke in the staging lanes, with a nasty ATF/Coolant/Oil leak and blown hg/warped head) they refused to give me a refund. I understand no refund on the helmet, and the 5 bucks is, imo, not worth arguing over (it's just $5, even though I hardly wore it) but the no refund on the entry (just $20 difference between a $35 racer ticket and a $15 spectator) was downright dirty.
Yes, I was the one with the Maroon T/A who pulled himself outta the staging lanes (not the other car that broke, I believe it was a dark 4-door accord, that put fluids on the track). With no fewer than 3-dozen people who saw me pull myself out (the guy was waving me to pull out on the track, and I gave him the no go sign and pulled off to the side until we could get 'er pushed back around). Yes, I put a small puddle of fluids in the staging lanes, but h***, at least it isn't 2000' of fluids on the track. Other than Kathy and the other track owner, everyone, incl. the employees, felt I should have had a cash refund (after all, I am visiting on leave and break at work). What if I were to trailer a car out there, fire it up, break something on the trailer before I go down the 1320' ... what then? Would you still not give any refund?
I sure hope you all are happy with the $20 you saved by this highway robbery, b/c you bet your A that I'll be warning others about you all. And you'll probably never catch me out there again (after all, my parents live much closer to E-town than they do to Island ... I just liked the extra T&T runs at Island, especially given that I'm still getting the hang of the T/A). :-x

its not their fault you broke. you left them with your mess to clean up. you got your difference between spectators and racer...thats about right. you gained entrance to their track at which is a 15 dollar fee. so you feel that you should have gained entrance to the track FREE because YOU broke YOUR car and left THEM to clean up YOUR mess?????
you my friend need to re-evaluate the situation

It isn't their fault though that your car broke though :-?
Isn't this why you sign a waiver before racing?

Are you saying that you asked for a $20 refund to make up the difference between racing and spectating, and they refused to give you anything back, or you asked for a refund, and they gave you only the $20 difference?
Either way, there are several signs at the gate that state that the track doesn't offer cash refunds. IIRC, they state, "No cash refunds, no exceptions"

you have to look at it from their side boss, they took upon the assumption that as a racer youre a bigger liability, would you be as upset if some guy flipped and wiped out an entire night before you can get a run it?

Yes, I am saying I asked for a $20 refund and didn't get it. No, if I got the $20 refund, I would'a been happy. I still stayed to help a friend of mine, who was out for his first day, and also is from WV, and the fact that I didn't race meant I got to see his reactions and such, and give him more pointers than I would have been able to give otherwise (got him from a .336 R/T to a .019 R/T first day).
And the fact is, by the time I was back there for the refund, I had already seen some cars go down the track, thus, as I stated, I understand that, even if I had decided to go back home, I might have only gotten the difference, as I said, understandable.

its your responsibility to make sure that your vehicle is in running condition before you race. that money you paid went towards the cleanup of fluids you made....which by the way is an environmental hazard
DaSkinnyGuy
06-13-2010, 10:11 PM
Well, idk what it is with you. Lets say you went to a hockey game and threw up in the stands because your drunk, are they going to give you your money back for your ticket? No because you messed up.
That fee is there to help make the track available for people to race and keep them off the streets racing. You made a thread because of $20.
If they dont give your money back how are they suppose to get payed to clean up your mess no matter how small or large the spill is. So you pulled yourself out of the staging lanes, were you looking to get valet service out the gate? Because they were still left to clean up your mess, you have now created a mess that the rest of the racers have to wait to race until the mess is cleaned up.
Big deal your parents live near etown what does that have to do with anything, get a job get your own place.

So let me get this straight. You pay your racing entry fee, you break your car and you want a refund because your ****box broke? That is CLASSIC. It's not their fault your car blew a headgasket and started puking just about every fluid there is. You're not entitled to a refund, they didn't do you wrong or dirty, that's the way it goes at ANY track. It sucks...but that's life. What does you being a visitor or being on work leave have to do with you getting a refund?
You can trash talk Island all you want but you're not entitled to anything. Maybe they should have given you the $20 on a kindness angle but that's it. I wouldn't have nor would any other track.
So let me throw this by you. Say you pay your $35 but sit in the pits all night because you changed your mind about racing or ended up helping a friend all night....should you get a partial refund?
didnt you just post about coolant leaking issues last week? now you are going to the track, and now you are blaming the track?
did a person employed by island break your car? NO
did a person employed by island have to clean up your mess? YES
does island have to pay its employee who cleaned up your mess instead of doing his job? YES
when you can tell us how its islands fault your car tried to do an impression of BP then ill give you the 20 bucks you are so butt sore about myself
DaSkinnyGuy
06-13-2010, 10:54 PM
If you payed and there was a problem with the track, maybe the tree wasnt working, it was nighttime and they lost power then you should get a refund, but this is not in their hands its in your hands, deal with it.
to go with cbrmike...So BP's well is spewing oil,it must be the the national oceanic peoples fault because the ocean got in the way and is making it difficult to fix the broken well. national oceanic people should pay BP. ( that dont make sense, thats my point, neither does your post )

That track did nothing wrong. Case closed. They weren't negligent, unless of course they secretly sabotaged the car. Hmmmm, conspiracy in the making?

Anyway, you knew you had a problem, went to the track anyway and broke and now your pissed that Island won't give you your money back? They have every right to keep the cash, it was your mistake to try to race it with a problem.

i think tracks should charge double for race admission then you get back half of your money if you dont oil down the track or cause any spills

nope, actually the waiver is an insurance liability waiver.. in case someone gets hurt we are not liable
that money you paid went towards the cleanup of fluids you made....which by the way is an environmental hazard
this.. you cost the track more money than someone who made 6 passes and didn't oil the track down
maybe melissa looked at his car from a distance and it started pooping parts
(i.e mikes sig)
 i was actually hiding in the office all day, so i can't be held responsible
melissa is?.....
:wavey:
someone cool....not like you
awww, thx :flower:
there's really not much else to post here.. had you broken before you made a run and did not make a mess you would have gotten a partial rain check, not a refund because we do not give refunds under any circumstances, but are more than happy to give rain checks good towards your next entry.. that is clearly written at the front gate where it says "no cash refunds."
However, since there was a cleanup involved, even if it was not on the track it still costs money to clean up, ESPECIALLY if its an oil/antifreeze mix, by which we can not dispose of in our usual oil bins
i think tracks should charge double for race admission then you get back half of your money if you dont oil down the track or cause any spills
it's a nice thought, and would keep people more accountable for their cars, but unfortunately until other tracks start doing it we can't.. i believe the time is coming where there may be a refundable deposit system though

just be glad you have a place to go and have fun, tracks are starting to become few and far inbetween and costs to run a track must be high. So you didnt get to run and the 20.00 wasnt going to put you in the poorhouse but you had a place to go and have fun and thats all that matters.

Not that there really is more to be had from this but I (even though I dont want to admit it!) have broken or had mechanical problems and was unable to race and to be honest, my entry fee was the furthest thing from my mind when it happened.
