Alright thats good, and just be prepared the tuner may tell you to replace your motor mounts if he starts seeing a ton of knock. May help to make him aware of that too before he starts.
Do you have a LT4 knock module in the PCM?
bigz28man

no i dont lt4 knock module.....believe it or not as far as the motor mounts go.....chad over at golen instructed me to go with stock motor mounts.....i know that does sound crazy but its true

Are the headers coated? I have read that new coated headers can ruin o2 sensors on initial start up. It's recommended to start the car with old sensors and after a few hours of run time switch to the new sensors.

The headers are polished which by the way look like absolute ***** now, anyway i did use the the old stock O2 sensors.

You said the engine sensor fuse is good? Check that the black wire on the engine harness side of the o2 connector show ground. Most likely your o2's are bad.

Im glad i saved the other set of O2 sensors i bought, at least i can test a theory to find out weather or not the others went bad.

Just wanted to give an update with a issue i was having awhile back with shifting through the gears. The car shifts nice an easy now, and tomorrow im pulling the two dummy lights out for the abs and asr lights. I spoke with kieth over at pcmforless, the other issues I'm having the tps and maf sensors will be addressed and fixed when it goes on the dyno. Im going to plug in the new O2 sensors i have and see if that problem still exists. If it does they are being placed in the collectors and i will go from there.

So who's running with 325/50/15 ? Im looking for anyone who has photos, I'm getting no traction and I need wider sneakers in the rear. Was looking at this tire from hoosier. specs says it only 1.6'' taller than what I'm running with now. Also looking for a good set of matching skinnies.

Are you looking at these as track only tires, or something to use everyday? Not sure what tire brand / model / size you are running now, but this tire is a full 2" taller than a stock 275/40/17 (25.7"). Between the height and the width I think you will have a rough time trying to get it to fit well with no rubbing.

I spoke with Bob's wife, the other day. I may be doing a roadside hand off with him on the trans. So I figured while the car is down for the reminder of the summer i would do the 3 pod A pillar gauge cluster, cant seem to find to many places that sell them for hard top f-bodies, found that speedhut sells them , does anyone else know where i can find this item at? Also should I get mechanical or electrical gauges from auto meter for the pods? also while the car is down i will be pulling out the front seats and painting the seat tracks, I also need a good carpet cleaner, the carpet is in really good shape but I'd like to make it perfect. I will be shimming the starter to get rid of the whinn when i go to start it (damn thing sounds like it has a blower) . Matt over tunetime informed me about pulling the rear cover off my moser rear and replacing the seal, anyone had to just replace the seal on a new rear? Matt said at about 500 miles the seal should be replaced... I said damn, more work.

As far as I know, molded 3 pillar pods don't exist for the hardtops. If you can find one, I'd grab it. Usually they just have the kind that screws into the existing plastic. I would run electric gauges too.

Autometer makes ones that fit in one of the 3-hole pods. Or you can mount Raptor light basically anywhere.
I just think the voltmeter is a waste of space. You could do a scan gauge there too.

I dunno, a good oil pressure gauge is not a bad idea.
Perhaps, but on a new rebuild its gonna be pegged anyways. At least thats what I have seen from other builds.
Oil pressure is either good, or its not I don't see the need to see the pressure read out in exact accuracy, the stocker was fine for me to show that I had pressure and there was no slow drops in it over time. IMO of course.
Well, for my 3 extra gauges, I got boost, fuel pressure, and oil pressure. The more I think about it, I agree that I don't actually NEED the oil pressure gauge. I got it originally when I had planned to run a stand alone oiling system for the supercharger and it was going to just monitor that system. As long as the factory gauge shows that there is decent pressure, and exact reading isn't too important. On a full race car, yes Id say it is much more important, but for our basic street-able builds, stock one works. So now I gotta go back and look if I can find a good 3rd gauge to get, or just stick with 2 and change my mounting design.

My thinking was that the stock gauges are sometimes slow and do not react fast, so they can mask a flutter or something like that. I dunno.
most people wont watch an oil pressure gauge 100% of the time. Most will start the car, wait a few seconds, and look at the gauges, If they show good, thats all we really look for, yes they may be slow to react but if theres a sudden loss of pressure they still work. The split second delay it may have isnt gonna be a make or break situation in most cases. you're still gonna take the time to shut it off and get to the side of the road. Plus the stock gauges have the warning lights too which also in the event of pressure drop to 0, even with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, will 90% of the time be the reason you know there's an issue.
I guess it really depends on the car though too. In my V, I have so many sensors and lights and warnings, they even come on through the 7" radio screen, that I think ill know if I have any serious oil issues. Also any time I race it at the track, I would be data logging it and reviewing all the runs. If i notice any concerns in the log that the gauge may not have illustrated, i can look at it further.
The stock tachometers are the gauges that most people say are the slowest to react. That's something a little more important to watch exactly to shift and such.

Ok so I have some decisions to make, i decieded to hold off on buying the gauges till the a-pillar came in .....which it did yesterday. I'll hit it with some charcoal spray paint and install. I did think about running a fuel pressure gauge only to see what pressure im getting but i figured once i take my reading at the rails do i really need to mointer fuel pressure. IDK i see it as what ever goes there is to help my investment . Thanks again guys, maybe I'll get the car back on the road to finish the summer out.

You should do a raptor shift light in that bottom defrost hole. I'd do a fuel pressure gauge, you can be driving and start to have issues and take note if the fuel pressure is correct or not. My pump was failing at high rpms under load which you couldn't determine without a gauge hooked up.

Thanks guys for all your help....i know thats what these forums are for, you know everyone lending helpfull advise. So I'll be doing a shift light, water temp, fuel pressure, and oil pressure gauges. Those seem to be the most important. Now once i get this car back on the road, it will be time to figure out how to get every last bit of hp out of this motor. Seeing that this car will never have any power adders ie. pro-charger, i dont know if I'll ever really get any more power out of it.

08-11-2012, 05:12 PM
It makes it easier for them to tune, and makes you doubt that are a capable LT1 tuner.
Unless you repin your own harness, the premade harness from EFI connection is a 4-6 month backorder.
bigz28man
08-11-2012, 05:28 PM
Damn thats what i was going to do, i was going to just get the whole kit from efi connections to make my life alittle easier. It's something i want to address in the not so distant future. I have bigger things on my plate with this car and the other car that are approaching. Next winter while im working on the 02' SS i may take this apart and do the swap. I really just want to hear from people that did it, that it was the best thing they have done. I also really need to get it back on the road and get it tuned, then go from there.
LTb1ow
08-11-2012, 05:33 PM
If you have any sense in your head, the repin is very easy. (granted I can't say my harness works yet ) The hardware kit and sensors run you bout $600, and the repin kit is a $100, then you need a LS1 pcm, coils, and coil harnesses. I am doing it on my build, just strictly because finding a competent LT1 tuner is entirely too difficult these days.
I would make them tune it, if they said they could then don't let them get out of it.
bigz28man
08-11-2012, 05:46 PM
Does the hardware kit include water pump, dampener, and crank case cover? Also do i keep the coil that is on the motor or does that get replaced as well? Also does the icm need to be changed?

Uh, what?
The setup just removes the opti, ICM, stock coil, and LT1 PCM.
Then you run a cam sensor, crank sensor, LS1 PCM, and coils. If you have 1996 cover you are fine, since the crank sensor is already there.

The EFI Connection kit was def one of the best choices for my build. Are you working with a standard timing chain or did you move to a double roller? The only tricky part is making sure the reluctor wheel is lined up with the crank sensor in the timing cover. Speaking of which, I didn't notice but if you have a pre-96 LT1, you will need the 96-97 timing cover or splurge and buy the TPIS covers they sell.

Tommy at east coast supercharging is well versed in lt1s. I'm sure they won't have any issue tuning it if you go 24x.
Blackbirdws6
08-12-2012, 03:09 PM

Depending on the double roller, you may be fine with the 24x reluctor wheel. Worst case, you get a different timing set. I use the Cloyes 9-3145 which works just fine with the 24x system.

Tommy is the person who sugested i go to the ls coils and pcm. He informed that not only is the lt1 software outdated the ls pcm can be tuned easier, it also can handle far more demands then lt1 firering system which tends to cut out at higher rpms. He referred to running an old computer operating system (windows 98 ) in a higher demanding pc. The analogy made sence.
LTb1ow
08-12-2012, 07:37 PM
Makes sense sure, but, the LT1 has been running 9s since 1996 or whenever, and they do it with the stock, "outdated" LT1 PCM...
Easier for tuners means less time they need to spend on it, and more money made. You have a very basic setup, it really shouldn't be an issue.
sweetbmxrider
08-13-2012, 07:11 AM
More overhead though having lt1 tuning software and corresponding cables. If you can afford it, nothing wrong with converting to 24x.

I don't completely agree with that, a cable is maybe $80 and the entire program to tune is again, maybe what, $60? Compared to HPtuners where one credit is $100 and that doesn't get you the program.
IDK, it irks me that a shop said they could do it no problem, and now is trying to push you into a new LS1 system that they can tune easier.
Adam's car was dyno tuned with an LT1 computer and even with the new cam, is on a mailorder, and still runs great.

Found this trailer picking it up towards the end of the month. Picked up this front bumper cover today note it doesn't have a notch in for camaro emblem. Should look really good after paint.

Well guys after 2 years of searching I think I found a 1997 OEM SS Hood. The guy informed me it came of a wrecked SS. I asked him to take a picture of the back of it and that I was looking for a serial number and a stamped marking that states "made in canada". hard to tell from this photo

If that hood is a genuine SLP hood, I would then have two mystic teal SS hoods, never really see that color car the streets.

Hard to tell from the lighting but that does not look like code 79 Mystic Teal/Blue Green Chameleon.

MTM/BGC can look blue depending on lighting.

Same car/color but light and camera settings mess it up.
I agree that looks like MQB though. The lighting has to be "just so" to get no green with MTM.

Well I just ordered black mirror "CAMARO" letters and black mirror Z28 badges from emblempros. The black mirror should look pretty hot on a freshly painted metallic silver car. I choose to leave out the lettering on the badges.

Well the new trans is up and in, small problem arose lastnight when we fired it up. It was surging lastnight. It had always ideled at 800, lastnight night it was at 1000 and surge up to 1300. The only thing i did while the car was up in the air was steam wash the underbody....made sure NOT to near opti. So what gives?

Wow typo let me fix that LOL
so here what was tested at 2 in the morning vacuum lines seem good, no codes came up but I'm thinking the knock sensor may have went, its the original one. Also need to check 1,2,4 plugs. Took a temp reading of the headers lastnight 3,5,6,7,8 where all about 570* , 1,2,4 were at about 390*. pulled the valve covers off, all rockers and springs looked good.

I'd disconnect the battery, reset the computer and let it relearn. Could be just something stupid or it could be the cold weather its trying to get used to. Start simple like you are doing then go further.

well to be honest, my soon to be wife surprised me with it. I was going to pass it up but she really wanted me to have this car. It has 126,000 on it... I know its high but hey new motors change all of that. she paid just under 7K for it. The car is pretty much bone stock. I have yet to even speak really with its previous owner. right now its runs better then my 97'. which all came down to an exhaust leak on the driver side causing the the O2 sensor to dump 20% more fuel into the mix. So after it gets back from paint it gets new header gaskets, new spark plugs and Im putting new O2 sensors in it. I'm done screwing with it. That F'er will be running right after that.

Well guys the majority of the car is done. All that's left is what you see that needs to be sprayed, put back together, final wet sanding and buffing. the front bumper cover still needs to be cut into and the black gloss applied, where it was on the previous bumper.

small piece of information here. seeing that GM used various sebring silver paint codes and clear coats as well throughout 95-02. I decided to us the 2002 paint codes seeing that 3/4 of the 02' car will be repainted. Might as well have them match

Need help chasing a demon in this lt1 of mine. Brought the car back to tunetime today. After changing all the plugs, new plug wires, new O2 sensors, and header gaskets. The car is running extremely rich on the driver side. The car has crazy throttle response with no load to it but under load its misfiring and being lazy. I'd like to rule out opti but matt and everyone else seems to be puzzled by this. Would the tps not at the right voltage cause these issues. Oh the car did make just over 360 rwhp, but Matt says it should make much more.

What is the tps voltage at? What is the fuel pressure at? What are the o2's reading?

quick update. readings on O2 sensors coming out normal, fuel pressure is normal, i did find out that I had injectors 6 & 8 mixed, they were properly relocated and for some reason that fixed the rich reading from +50 % to + 30% on left bank. tps reading .95 volts, this still needs to be adjusted down but thoughts are nothing will change. here are both dyno pulls

well guys the Z is finally done (for now). I have to say I cant be happier. Turned out it was not the opti after all, just alot of little things working against the motor. the future will bring a 24x kit to the car, but that will be when the opti does go. maybe then I'll procharge the car. Here is its finale pull.

Check for burnt wires first.
You may have posted this but are the O2 sensors relatively new? Or are your headers?

The o2 sensors are a year old. The headers had to come off last month, the flanges had to milled. Found out that the flanges were not level. So it kept blowing header gaskets. Once the they were milled they were coated with epoxy to stop the the exhaust leaks caused by flange not being true. Then the headers were bolted back onto the heads. I did look under the carthere and i didn't see any wires hanging. So they may be just burnt and not severed completely.

So all the O2 wires check out good. Heater element in both are shot. So now just trying to figure out if anything cause them to go or did they just crap out on their own

Seeing as thought the stock z28 exhaust tips are garbage and my 396 has cracked them all to hell. I picked up these magnaflow stainless tips and had powder coated black. They should look good pretty good on the car.

After some cutting, stretching, and welding the new tips are on. They look great i know it's hard to tell from the photo.

So the Z will be going up on the lift next week, last year I discovered a small leak of trans fluid. while tune time had it they discovered a oil leak as well. I was told the oil was coming from the oil pan seal and not the rear main. I should have had them fix the oil leak then but 1400 to fix the trans and some other issues caused me to turn down the oil pan seal fix. oh well I guess it just never ends. the repair seems pretty straight forward. drain oil, unbolt motor mounts lift motor slightly unbolt pan, replace seal and repeat steps backwards. Am i missing anything?

So I was able to fix the oil leak without having to drop the pan. turned out i just had really just reset the pan. though tonight I went to start it and about after 5 minutes of it idling it dies. no SES light warning. I started it again and it dies a minute later, I'm totaling thinking the opti has taken a crap.
I'll pull the MAF sensor wire off tomorrow and see if it stays running to check to see if MAF sensor has gone bad.

I would personally check fuel pressure. I would think a bad opti would be a no start or rough idle. Also, if the car hasn't been used in a while, it may need to relearn idle. What happens if you give it throttle while it is running?

I'm going to head over to the storage unit now and check it out now that I have some daylight. Its weird two weeks ago it ran perfect.

so after starting the car today it stalled out about 4 minutes or so I remembered the last time i had it out, the fuel tank had gotten pretty low (1/8) so i decided to try some fuel cleaner. I let it run for about 15 minutes tonight at idle...it didn't stall out stayed at constant 1000-1100 range the whole time. I gonna chalk this up to IDFK. I'll be able to get it out next week and see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

Hmmm.....maybe an electric motor like the fuel pump or a fan or waterpump? Could you tell where it was coming from roughly?

Naa, without having a second person to shut it off I can't listen from the front. This was on a cold start and the car was running for 10 minutes. Will the fans kick on low at that point?

So it was from the front? That rules out fuel pump.
Depends but the fans could have kicked on at that point.
