I am going to be totally re doing the exhaust on the GTA. Here is my plan and the only part that I haven't decided on is what cat-back to go with.
Hooker 2055 Emissions headers with Y-pipe
Catco 3 Inch in 3 Inch out flanged cat.
Here are the three exhaust Systems I have narrowed it down to
Magnaflow: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-16829/
Flowmaster: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-17233/
Borla: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BOR-14888/
I want the Borla but the price tag is large so that why the other two are in consideration. If I get the magnaflow or the flowmaster it leaves room for me to get a set of runners to go with this set up now. If I buy the Borla the runners will have to wait for the winter.
Just looking for some opinions to kind or narrow it down to one so I can shorten up my summit wish list lol

I have the Flowmaster exhaust on my 87. I don't think I would buy it again. Fitment was not the best and they use the old style exhaust clamps which makes it a real pain to take apart. I would go with one of the other kits you listed.

Negative. Dual Cat's was an extra. And that really wouldn't matter because I am replacing the Y-pipe and going with a different cat set up
buy Ted's Borla
Thought about it but I want to put all new stuff on the car. Just my preference right now

Damn you, you just added a 4th choice to the mix. Is that 3 inch at the converter flange? You don't happen to have a part number do you? Summit has it listed as fits single cat models but doesn't specify which size

I'm a fan of hooker 2055s into the magnaflow. Loud when you want it to be, low rumble at idle/coasting. That's what I'm saving for.
you get over it very quickly

I agree. I do not know if they are a necessary mod though. If they are not, ditch them.
NGK makes shorter plugs if you need the clearance.

Yes, I use those in my Z. My old headers needed them.

You use Accels or the NGK's?

I always had problems with those cats breaking up and coming apart. The only aftermarket cat I found to last was the ODBII compliant ones from Magnaflow. But they are much more expensive than the Catco.

How about a Mufflex 3.5" system for your car? You can choose the muffler to suit your sound tastes...

I actually heard they were pretty good. How long were they on the cars before they broke up?

Run a true duel setup.

Less than a year.

You can and others have done so successfully, but the dual pipes are a pain to route and add a lot of weight vs. a single pipe.

He has a stock 305 right now. Both those options seem to be a bit overkill.

Bill,
Definitely understand your view on the 305, but either now would allow for larger engine choices (or modifications) in the future, or even power adders without robbing too much power. If one is going to upgrade in the future, why buy the same part twice?

Thanks WBT. I was gonna say that. Even with a mild 350 that might be over kill

Anything but the flowmaster. My friend has one on his tpi 305 and it sounds terrible. Magnaflow is nice and medium, Borla is nice because its adjustable but expensive and Hooker is quiet under normal loads and sounds like a racecar when you push it. Hooker is the cheapest of the 3 if you are still on a tight budget.

this thread could not come at much better time. even thought greenformula92 and I have different animals here, I to have been in the hunt for a good exhaust system as well. I'm leaning on the borla side with my 97' project and kooks headers -true duel setup on my 02' project. greenformula92 I like where you went with it, the first time you did ...you went for doing it right.

Thank you sir. I did a lot of research for the cat-back, I knew I wanted the emission headers because I want it to pass inspection and it has to go through the sniffer. I chose the cat just by process of elimation. Its a Direct replacement but is 3 inch diameter in and out. The Borla was just one of those things where I have wanted it on previous cars but didn't want to send the money but I finally have a car worth spending the $765.00 on. I was going to do the runners as well in this round of upgrades but the borla sucked up the extra money for that

Greenformula are you going to drop the motor to install the headers? Also think about getting the protective boots for the plug wires, you will notice the wires will almost rest on the headers. You will have no room for working, but the headers do just, and stress just fit in nicely.

The headers are shorties so they will almost drop right in. I have the protective boots for.the wires and I also bought wires with 90* boots.

Greenformula sounds like its going to breath a lot healthier. My car should be done later in the week providing nothing more breaks. I live right in manahawkin now, would love to hear what you got there.
