2005 Sierra 2500HD, LLY duramax and A1000 allison 5 speed automatic trans.

So far it has a AFE turbo mouthpiece, MBRP downpipe, MBRP 5" turbo back exhaust, EGR blocked, and of course what hipster diesel fanboi is without a crummy 120hp/200tq tune.

Need to install a set of tie rod sleeves soon, and then see how she does versus the scooby doo mobile. Last big mod on the truck will be more fuel filters through a air dog/FASS etc system. Right now the factory WIF filter was removed to allow the use of a CAT filter, 20 buck CAT filter that flows, and filters better than the 80 buck OEM filter FTW. Hopefully also install a bigger trans cooler soon, and maybe do coolant flush/thermostats.

Hopefully have it at the track maybe this fall if I save up the 4-5k to cover when the trans blows up. Until then, 0-60mph runs and embarrassing fancy car drivers.

LTb1ow

VGT turbo, garret from Izuzu factory. Makes interesting hair dryer noises at idle when it does self check or whatever

This is bert.

I need a camera on teh back of the truck to get pics of people trying to get pics of ole bert, its quite funny to watch.

If I race it, will drop down to the 90hp/160tq tune, safe for Allison. But enough to make FFB cry after a 7k lb truck out 60fts him.

Any parameter you want from the PCM with user set high alarms, 0-60 1/4 mile calculator thing, and a plug in for rear view camera.

I have it set to show trans temp, rpm, boost, IAT, and engine temp. You can show up to 8 parameters I think on the screen. Touch screen too

Needs moar power level.

LTb1ow
08-27-2012, 10:07 PM
That isn't really meaning anything, if I get EFIlive, you can switch between tunes with this versus having a switch.

I just have a single tune loaded, so if I want to switch I have to pull fuses and load tune etc. Maybe in the future, really no sense in it unless I get a built trans.

Blackbirdws6
08-27-2012, 10:16 PM
I thought they sold tuning things to switch tunes on the fly?

LTb1ow
08-27-2012, 10:19 PM
I thought they sold tuning things to switch tunes on the fly?

Que?

If you buy a multiple tune custom setup through EFIlive, then yes, you wire in a 5 position switch and you can switch through tunes on the fly. This monitor allows you to do that without wiring in a switch and does it through the data bus.

You can run a canned multiple tune through Edge, and then you would be able to select 1, 2,3, etc tune. EFIlive would be the best option, but, either way I have more than enough power to destroy the stock transmission.

Blackbirdws6
08-27-2012, 10:21 PM
Got it. Just getting educated.

LTb1ow
08-27-2012, 10:24 PM
Yea, if you were planning on having the trans built, EFIlive is the way to go. Its "custom-ish" in the sense that its tailored to the mods you have done vs the PPE tuner which is made for a stock truck.

An EFIlive setup can give you an economy, light tow, heavy tow, medium power, and all out power tunes.. all on the same PCM and if you have a monitor like this, you can switch em on the fly. IE.. ricer next to you, economy tune -> kill tune

1994lt1
09-04-2012, 10:21 AM
Nice truck I love this year. Question though: What does built trans actually entail? My dad has an 04.5 Duramax and we definitely noticed some slipping between shifts after we installed the big tune. We have since uninstalled it because even on a lesser setting it slipped when towing. I'm guessing this is common for this year with a stock trans?

LTb1ow
09-04-2012, 11:46 AM
Yea, all the 5 and 6 speeds A1000 trans can't hold much past 400rwhp. I would highly recommend removing the tune when you tow, it adds a ton of stress to the clutches and once you slip it once, its on its way out.

A rebuild is like any other auto trans rebuild, new clutches, upgrade to a triple disc converter and upgraded servos/valves. The also fix the pump rub issue with causes the transfer cause fluid to leak out over time and when you shift into 4x4 it dies on you. Usually will cost you ~$4-5k installed, check out Mike L @ Inglewoods trans, or George @ Big Dipper. The latter is in MD so not a huge drive and you avoid shipping a 300# trans.

Nah that will go away when I get a proper grille.

Currently have a 1500 which has bumper right to bottom of grill, whereas the new bumper is made for a 2500hd which has a plastic space that fills that gap between bumper and grille. So gotta check local junkyard for a new grille and should be good to go.

Although, I think I may chop that company logo out and install light bar there.

if it works when I get the harness replaced, then I may opt for a new fan.

FYI just fixed the same problem on my friends truck. Pigtail and resistor were fried. It was due to the windshield drain line being clogged at the bottom right corner. i would double check it (it was an 03 1500). drain was clogged and water was running into the heater box/chasing the harness

I think some red blinkers will really set the truck off

I'm jealous of that install simplicity. I think some red LEDs behind the MOVE bumper would be fun. Def red though to keep the illegal theme rolling.

that would be so much better if MOVE was backwards so it was clear in a rearview mirror
