I realized I never made a thread for it. well, probably because I'm wasting my money on other things and not dumping them into this turd.

Anyway... I'll try to go as best as I can in chronological order.

Let's go back to 2006. Fell asleep at the wheel with my 94 formula, and rear-ended a tractor trailer. Luckily it wasn't that fast of an impact and I came out unscathed.

Few months later, I got my 96 ws6 off of eBay
https://i.imgur.com/fD3yj3q.jpg

90k miles, all stock except for a garbage flowmaster muffler. First things first were to replace the exhaust with a real one. Brandie new from GMMG.

https://i.imgur.com/iHfSmxh.png

Installed it, took some photos. Said that 4x4 gap has to go.
https://i.imgur.com/IO1qy8m.png

Went to Mr. Strano and blew a pretty penny on Strano springs, Koni 4/4s, and an adj panhard bar.
https://i.imgur.com/i97494r.png

Much better
https://i.imgur.com/e5aoCth.png

At some point, I went to shift into 2nd doing a burnout.
https://i.imgur.com/nr9BoJ7.png

Last time I really did burnouts lol. Had to upgrade to UMI stuff.
https://i.imgur.com/lKH1Li3.png

Dad gave me an eBay short throw, and I kept missing 3rd. MGW fixed that immediately. I also came across an LS1 center console so now I have a good cupholder!
https://i.imgur.com/CeIZlx9l.jpg

Car needed brakes, so I went with LS1 fronts that were painted red.
https://i.imgur.com/DmQp0fPl.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/qkemaY0.png

Talked to our buddy Brian and managed to get a deal on a HID kit, and got some clear corners.
https://i.imgur.com/ocKcut5l.png

https://i.imgur.com/4cdfCu7l.jpg

2nd clutch replacement. first one was rear main seal pissed all over OEM clutch and made it slip. this was my "stage 2" spec that just chattered like all hell and started to slip.
https://i.imgur.com/628gDCwl.png

Superstorm sandy...
https://i.imgur.com/reRKC6Pl.png

Replaced headlight cover and fender, but it is a backyard job :bertstare:

Had a little stint with C5 Z06 wheels with nitto nt05/nt05r
https://i.imgur.com/Gnx549Gl.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/WwL2W4h.jpg

got 3rd place at Import Vs Domestic because this guy who has bracket raced for 30 years kicked my butt
https://i.imgur.com/uZrzVzg.png

Got some LPP headers (XSPower) and Y pipe. Currently no cats, but it definitely needs them. Got a PCM4LESS Tune as well to delete AIR/EGR/rear O2s
https://i.imgur.com/VmXB9Erl.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/gBgplQul.jpg

Was on LS1tech and came across a guy that made "frosted grids" out of the LT1 tails. I found a good used set, sent him 1. UPS broke them. Took my refund, got another set sent to him, and this is what I got.

https://i.imgur.com/21bHvsol.jpg

Full LED bulbs as well. Reverse LEDs ftw!

Got the windows tinted, I believe 35%. Looks much better.
https://i.imgur.com/5Wf1Flel.jpg

That is all I can remember right now. Just to recap...

Current mods:
LPP Longtube Headers
Offroad Y Pipe
GMMG Catback exhaust
PCM4LESS Tune
TPIS TB Air Foil
SPEC Stage 1 Clutch (garbage)
Super sweet Strut Tower Brace
BMR Subframe Connectors (welded)
Boxed Stock Rear LCAs
3.73s (blown, rebuilding 4.11 set)
Koni 4/4s with Strano Springs
UMI Adjustable Torque Arm attached to a UMI Relocation Crossmember
UMI Adjustable Panhard Bar
MGW Short Throw Shifter
LS1 Front Brakes
Blackbird HID system
Full Sound System with all powerbass speakers and a stealth box with a powerbass 10" sub.

Currently rebuilding the rear, setting drive line angle properly, installing the alpine/amp I got from Brian, magnaflow exhaust tips I won for free from 6LE, and getting new tires. current tires are ~8 years old and showing their age pretty badly.

I was hoping for a head gasket issue so I have an excuse to tear it down and do LE1 or LE2 and a cam. I think full blown LE2 with everything is ~$2300

Pulled out the rear end and disassembled it. I had my dad bring the rear to Corbo's Garage in Somerville to have it re-assembled properly. They are a family friend shop. My uncle who passed away worked there and they are super old school.

Wheels got powercoated "Alien Silver" and mounted with the nittos by FAP AUTO in Carteret.

https://i.imgur.com/F25R2k7l.jpg

Ordered Strano Hollow Swaybars, Hawk HPS pads front/rear and stoptech rotors. Should be coming together soon.

Also got Brian's old radio that needs to be put in ;)

Spoke too soon. Vibration still there just at a higher speed (~75mph). Had a local shop check driveline angles and it's all good. About to throw in a stock transmission cross member and torque arm.

If it's still there after that I'm parting it out.

ThoR294

Stock arm and crossmember installed. Vibration still present. Going to measure distance between trans and rear and have PST make me a driveshaft. If that doesn't fix it I'm parting out

What did you actually do to fix the vibration? Other than go back to stock.

Is the driveshaft out of balance? Bent rim? Unbalanced tired?

This has been going on for years. so I have swapped:

driveshafts (had my oem one balanced, threw in a LS1 driveshaft also, now im back to OEM)
rear end (mind you, current one was inspected and rebuilt fully, axles are not bent. all new bearings, new posi, new ring/pinion.)
wheels/tires
transmission
now transmission crossmember and torque arm.

Everything that spins has been replaced minus the front stuff, but it is 100% a driveline vibration, as it is only present with the car in neutral or clutch pedal pressed down. It feels like its coming from the rear.

I find it hard to believe it is still the driveshaft, after having mine balanced and using another one from an LS car. I am out of ideas at this point. I think my last ditch effort will be to call Larry at 2nd gen engineering and see if he can diagnose it. I am 100% serious about parting out too lol. I can't drive the ****ing car. I'd be better off keeping parts I want and scrapping/parting the rest of the car and buying another one!

Dibs on the bumpers

front is decent, back one sucks

Also, I'm an idiot. I forgot to measure length for driveshaft while I was doing torque arm install. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Same here. I still think it's driveline angle related.

FWIW I'd see about strapping a GoPro under the car facing the diff.

Edit:

One driveline thing not mentioned swapping was the diff yoke. Did you try different ones of those?

haha ok let me run it down.

In gear, accelerating, vibration does not exist.

In gear, decel, vibration is KINDA there but not very noticable.

In gear, clutch pedal down, vibration is bad.

Neutral, clutch pedal down, vibration is same as above.

Neutral, clutch pedal up, vibration is the same as the above 2.

turning engine on or off doesn't change anything

I mean, sounds like clutch/trans related to me.

I have read that the output shaft bushing? may cause a vibration. I swapped transmissions and it didn't change. I've also had 2 spec clutches in. new flywheel too...

I'm not sure why you're doing anything other than accelerating.

What does it do when you are driving a steady speed while in gear? IE cruising down the highway

You have done a garbage job describing your issue.

Only happens when you're doing OVER 70 mph? Does it stop at a certain MPH? Like 85 mph?

Only when clutch is depressed or when in neutral. Same if engine is running or not.

So trans is spinning but motor isn't. That rules out clutch IMO. Sounds like trans then. When forward or backward for is applied, no issue. When it free spins there is an issue.

BLS knows the most about broken LT1 T56 trans. Maybe he knows what could be free spinning and ruining your life.

Is the trans fluid at the correct level?

The above I described only over 70 mph. Gets worse gradually above that speed. Doesn't stop.

Trans fluid should be fine I'll check when it's up in the air. I find it hard to believe 2 transmissions would have same issue but I got nothing left after driveshaft

How would that make noise when the clutch is in, but not when the drive train is engaged?

Doesn't make sense to me, when the driveline is loaded would be peak noise/vibration levels if you had something goofy misaligned.

I had a shop set the pinion angle with the aftermarket torque arm and verify everything is tight. He said the angle was off a bit but everything else was tight. it toned the vibration down but its still there.

I just have to call Larry and drop it off there.

The fact that the vibration improved with a reset of the pinion angle is telling. I'd guess a second set of eyes on that would be a good start.

Also worth noting that you do not feel it on acceleration is important. So again, guessing the driveline angle isn't where it needs to be.

Spoke with Larry.

Going to stop by on Monday and we are going to inspect the output shaft on the T56. If it looks good, we are going to measure for a driveshaft to be made. We were thinking about using a used driveshaft but we want to be certain it is balanced and joints are good.

I got 3 or 4 driveshafts if you wanna borrow them to swap

Could you try plugging the tailshaft and run it up to speed without the driveshaft?

Drove with Larry so he could feel the vibration (insert Marky Mark joke here).

Checked over the rear. All looks good on the back side.

2 possible causes up front:

1)
The Y pipe/catback connection is slightly rubbing against the tunnel. We talked about it and I am going to just get a kooks catted y-pipe to kill 3 birds with one stone. 1) tone down the rasp, 2) fix it from hitting the tunnel, and 3) maybe get rid of or reduce vibration transmitted to the car.

2)
Front U Joint on the D/S has a little bit of play in it. We are going to get a driveshaft since it'll be an upgrade and it will eliminate any issues with my current one.

Stay tuned bros

Car is currently at ProFab Chassis investigating the dreaded vibration. They noticed the motor mounts were shot, and that the exhaust is pretty much on the k member lol. replaced motor mounts, so exhaust no longer hits car anywhere.
adjusted y pipe since engine is now in proper place
replaced rear pinion seal since it was puking
adjusted panhard properly since it was not centered
replaced rear fluid since a bunch of metal came out (this will be 3rd drain and fill in like 550miles since rebuild)

vibration still there 100%

Steering shaft is now hitting headers really bad. Going to put LS1 steering shaft in. Also going to call Corbos (who rebuilt rear) and tell them what's going on. Over 70mph with clutch pedal in and or car in neutral. I've replaced everything transmission and back. Literally. The only thing that I didn't replace new was the transmission. I swapped with a used one.

Don't think so. I just drove it and it's smooth in gear. Motor mounts did help with engine side vibration obviously lol.
