if you wanna swap out the processor( i should of mentioned this) is not hard, but it is time consuming and can be pretty tedious.

you have to remove a bunch of tiny screws, and you also will probably have to take off your keyboard. everything else should be easy as i said before

tbh i really don't know what i'm doin here... i was just curious if it was possible
if i were to do it i really wouldn't want to do it all myself or at least without supervision/assistance

Intel Duo vs dual core. What's the difference?

Brando56894 01-27-2007 01:20 AM

supposedly the duo is better

Yes but its hotter than africa... and intel chips are garbage. I have yet to garbage pick an AMD computer, let alone chip, and you dont know how many times Ive chucked crappy intels :-) Performance-wise, the core 2 duo takes the cake, but durability + overclocking-ability, dual-core is the way to go.

I'm thinking about picking something up like this...

intel is always alot hotter the AMD, ive had both amd and intel and dont really notice that much of a difference except heat wise

I look at the temperature now and its definately not on the safe side for OC (found that out first hand hahaha) ... i went to OC it from 2.8GHz to 3.080GHz and the CPU temp jumped from a steady 52*C to a whopping 63*C  Then my system siezed up. Anybody have any luck with watercooling? From what I hear, people could overclock their CPU in huge amounts of numbers and still get a steady 38*C at idle and 45*C at full load.

Better make sure it stays cool and it doesnt seize up again. It would suck if your system died during one of your LAN parties..... :geek:

I don't know about that. Maybe that's true with the newer AMD chips but my two older AMD XP chips ALWAYS ran hotter than my P4's.

Was that in the same case, with the same case fans, and with the same CPU cooler on them?

If so I'd be pretty surprised. I've always seen Intel chips run much warmer.

it's cuz you're sparky.

Brando56894 01-29-2007 12:50 PM

my p4s always ran hot as hell, the only amd ive had is my 64. right now my amd 64 x2 4200 is runnin at 102 F with the fan all the way down. the hottest ive ever seen it was when my fan was full blast (around 5200rpm) and i was playin UT2004 at nearly max values, it was runnin at 130 i think. the lowest ive had it was like 60 or 70 degrees
