BIZARRE power steering problem

fluids fine, no leaks, belts fine... everything sounds good

took a hard turn

power steering dissapeared on me

any clues?

GP99GT 07-17-2007 08:08 PM

still no power steering after you took the turn?

Noodles 07-17-2007 08:09 PM

^ clownnnn

the powersteering was fine.. than i took a hard turn.. anbd it dissapeared

GP99GT 07-17-2007 08:19 PM

i was asking if it just went away while in the turn/coming out of it and then it came back...not messing around

thats weird though...dunno much about power steering but its odd that either the pulley didnt seize and you didnt lose a hose...hmm

Knipps 07-17-2007 08:22 PM

i lost power steering doing donuts once and it was just the acc. drive belt
not sure what this could be

Noodles 07-17-2007 08:28 PM

^ what were signs that something was wrong with the belt?
cause everything looks/sounds fine

i thought you were joking matt. it never came back.

the belt was off the pulley

LS1s have a single belt for all the accessories and a seperate one for the a/c....so if your belt was gone youd have no p/s, low battery voltage, overheating, etc

thats exactly what i thought

wtf is the problem

HardcoreZ28 07-18-2007 07:26 AM

Maybe one of the internal seals in the pump went bad or the recirculating check ball that controls fluid flow.

Noodles 07-19-2007 02:21 AM

sounds like there is pressur though.. check ball maybe...

but theres pressure i can hear it when i open it.

GP99GT 07-19-2007 05:20 AM

i dont think you should have pressure under your cap

camaro2you 07-19-2007 09:31 AM

if you have had the car running and the fluid gets hot it creates a vacum like efftect and when you turn the cap to take it off it makes that little pop like sound.

Noodles 07-19-2007 09:33 AM

^ gotcha, thanks for that bit of info

because

this is the problem

i lost my power steerign once on a sharp turn in a parking lot, started hissing, shut it off, turned the car back on and it was fine, fluid full still. i think it happened twice in the 4 years i first had the car.
