Major problem now

Driving home car starts to over heat and then i lose the belt. Pull over and car smokes a a little, then i start to hear the fluid dropping. the pulley on the face of the water pump is lose and the coolant is leaking from between the pulley and the water pump. what the hell happend and more importantly am i screwed?

going to get it towed back to my place now.

pump is shot

sweetbmxrider 03-26-2009 05:35 PM

yeah sounds like pump

usp55 03-26-2009 05:43 PM

there was some slight noise but nothing i was really concernd about. and i figured i could limp home as it was less than a mile. so the pump huh...just got it towed home. im gona start with the pump i guess. any thing else it could be? i hope its just that as i dont have the funds to fix anything major.

Definitely sounds like the pump.

usp55 03-26-2009 06:39 PM

ok lets see if i can get this new pump on before the nova game...no light, raining, and im tired as **** right now. should be fun

sweetbmxrider 03-26-2009 06:53 PM

they are easy on 3.4's :D

GP99GT 03-26-2009 06:55 PM

yep, pump is bad...theres a seal in the shaft that finally went, chances are the bearings have been bad for a while, they dont always make a noise...the seals can only take so much abuse

bobb1589 03-26-2009 06:58 PM

yeah, they are pretty easy on the 3.4's i think mine took 2-3 hours just because i didn't know what i was doing the first time

since you're gonna be working on the front of the motor, just check to make sure all the other pulleys spin freely.

update, got it fixed that night no problems and its running great again.
