timing a carb 350

im almost done with the T/A . not the only problem that i have is tuning it. i have a timing gun(never used it before) with a book that expains what to do . my question is where does the neddle need to be at to be right on time?

The harmonic balancer's zero TDC mark (engraved line) needs to be at the specified mark on your timing tab, usually spot-welded to the timing cover. I usually start at 10deg Before Top Dead Center.

Be sure the distributor's vacuum advance is disconnected, and the vac line plugged.

I would trust a light over "listening". I timed by ear before (couldn't see the dampner at all) and its a pain in the *** to get it right.
