I think its hit or miss on the 3rd gens. I had 3 myself. 86 Formula, 87 Trans am, and 87 Iroc. The one that gave me the worst problems was my 87 trans am. Nothing but electronic issues. Wouldnt start half the time, tranny was always going, everything leaked and the thing had low miles. Was just horrible. I traded it for a 300 Z best thing I did at that point.
