wondering what a fair price for a 84 white w/ tan leather t/a would be. 305/ auto, sunroof. both head lights operate. Told car is sound and just needs battery from sitting. headliner should be replaced, but remainder of interior is ok.
Not sure of mileage, but assume it is not super high yet not super low. I'm a stranger to the 3rd gens. My knowledge is with the 2nd gens as far as pricing and 'common problem areas' are concerned. would 1500 be too much?

any thoughts are appreciated.

All depends on the shape. I'd say in average shape (not beat up, but not mint) with between 100,000miles and 140,000miles a 3rd gen is probably in the 1200-1800 dollar range. I paid 1800 for my 88 maro 4 years ago.

ive seen decent third gens go for around 3-5k, most of them were modded though

From what I am told, the car is in decent condition with little or no rust. wouldn't say its mint or beat.

84 would have an electric control Rochester carb, correct or were other options available?

has a lot to do with options, mileage, and rust/rot. 3rd gens are notorious for rot. If you are interested in all in the car, check it thoroughly for rot. Check the floors, radiator support, front and wheel wells, rear bumper frame area, door jams, pretty much everywhere. The car would be pretty much worthless if the floors are rotted out.

2k tops with the little info you provided, thats assuming no rust/rot and reasonable mileage

Yeah, tell me about it.
Check under the car. Check the wheel well. If one of the seams is busted, expect a lot of rust. (Ask me how I know)

If the car is in drivable condition and looks O.K. than 1500 is a fair price. Obviously condition impacts the price.

The car would have had a CC Quadrajet on it originally.

If this turns out to be a regular bird and not a T/A, would there still be value in it or is it merely worth the air in the tires? I know more when I see it tomorrow or the next day.

Well its still a not so desirable year third gen either way, but if its just a stock car the dude used as a daily driver low ball him with like 800-1000 bucks depending on mileage/condition... bring a battery with you and try to get it started, if it doesnt turn over offer him 400 bucks

Should be an LG4 car, AFAIK the L69 HO motor was only available in the Trans Am. VIN code H for the LG4, VIN code G for the L69.

I would definitely take a good battery and make sure it starts and runs ok before talking price at all.

seems like it is a little to much unless the car is cherry and low miles, runs good. I am not sure what you are looking for but if this doesn't work out and the car is not reliable, there are many nice looking 3rd gens out there for reasonable prices.

Long story short, the car wound up at my shop. On initial inspection, it looks very solid sans for a minor issue on the inside rear corner of the driver's door. Overall it needs a good cleaning. The seller couldn't find the keys (don't ask), but says he'll have them w/in a week. I am told it runs fine. odometer says 54k, could be 154k for all i know. Car is the LG4 optioned engine which looks complete. interior needs radio, headliner and a couple of trim pieces which the seller may have. When I get a set of keys, I'll go through the car mechanically and do a road test. From the looks of it and what I am told, I'm not expecting anything major.

My honest opinion assuming the engine runs as stated, it looks like a good candidate for a driver or something to have fun with as it is a very solid example.

Any one have a set of 3rd gen rims for the car with at least a half decent tire that holds air? I'll use the current rims for a 77 t/a I have.

I'll post something in the classifieds shortly. If interested PM and I will provide contact info.

yes, i have a fulls et of charcoal 16x8 crosslaces posted in the classifieds. Along with tons of other parts you may need as im parting two of those cars.

its a heap, run. IMHO

The exterior is rough, with some damage, half in interior is missing and the carpet looks either really dirty or its moldy=floor rot.

The car doesnt look like its been cared for cosmetically, so i would feel pretty confident that it hasn't been cared for mechanically.

After careful thought, I'll probably pass on it. the seller may want to have me do some work on it and keep it or sell it afterwards. I think I'll make the most coin going that direction. I'll stick to my 2nd gens or if I find a nice 30th t/a or 20th t/a.

Another question, If this was a t/a, would it have better desirability or are all birds in this condition of this era not to desirable?

Wouldn't mind finding a set of the early 3rd gen rims (non cross lace) for the fellow so I can trade for the snowflakes. I have 2 currently. looking for something cheap, no show quality stuff.

To be honest most people I know arent even looking at 3rd gens . Hence the expression "Turd Gen". Most buyers will save up the extra coin and buy a 4th gen lt's considering most auto's arent fetching more than 3g's.

If 3rd gens are known as "turd gens" and no one wants them, why did a 1988 GTA sell for $19,500 on speedvision tonite? I happen to own a clean 91 z28 and I get a lot of compliments. I did own a 97 z28 and I liked it but the 3rd gens have more style than the 4rth, esspecially 98-02 the Chrysler Sebring years.

I think its hit or miss on the 3rd gens. I had 3 myself. 86 Formula, 87 Trans am, and 87 Iroc. The one that gave me the worst problems was my 87 trans am. Nothing but electronic issues. Wouldnt start half the time, tranny was always going, everything leaked and the thing had low miles. Was just horrible. I traded it for a 300 Z best thing I did at that point.
