'tis truly a sad day
for my poor, poor saturn
driving to work this morning, i look in the mirror....smoke everywhere. stop and open the door, smell trans fluid...luckily i was almost at work so i got it there, trail of trans fluid in my path. lost about 2 quarts over about 2 miles of driving
couldnt tell where it was coming from besides that its an internal problem (not a cooler line or something) so...to the trans shop it went. if it needs more than like $500 worth of work im just gonna ****can it i think

That sucks Matt. Hopefully it ain't anything major.
Next, build the drivetrain before you add all that horse power.

You had a transmission, but your diff pin ate it.
go to sixthsphere
they have a lot of info and Im pretty sure you could get everything for a 5spd swap for under $500 so If you want to stick with auto, a new(used) trans will probably be pretty cheap.

I just had to replace the tranny in my GF's saturn...paid $250 for it. I don't know if they are the same, though. Her's is called an MP7, specifically for the twin-cam cars, 95-02 are the same ( in her car's case...2002 sl2)

Is the transmission oil pan on top of the transmission? That's how MP7's are. They apparently are know for being junk. The valve-body is usually the culprit ( although, that doesn't explain spewing fluid). If you determine that it is indeed the VB, let me know. I have an extra one with all the "fixes" done to it. Wholesale on them is $230...i'll make you a much better deal.

If you do get a new trans or what ever have the diff pin welded..
I honestly want to have mine welded. I know for a fact that's going to be my biggest problem with my car after it passes inspection..

Oh, well...sorry. I can still probably help you out with a "new"/used from a junkyard one if you need.

you would know without a doubt if it was the diff pin...my buddy had it happen to his, he was cruising doin about 35, not beating on it not driving like a jerk or anything then all of a sudden BOOM and there was nothing but smoke and he couldnt accel anymore, the engine was still running but the car wasnt going anywhere lol it actually put a huge hole in the side of the casing (almost took the entire diff with it). he got fed up and put a 5spd in its place.
