yea i dont feel like paying the $75-100 for mandriva then having to pay a monthly subscription fee to get the updates, thats the reason i stopped using it in the first place. and as for windows xp, theres wayy to much daily maintence that need to be done with it and the stupid clean access thing wont let me on...

i've never had any problems with my XP, and most of my friends switched over to it after seeing how quick my comp ran.

ive been using XP for a couple years...if you dont suck at computers, it wont get slow. and you dont have to "clean it" every day. ive never had XP get corrupted, slow, or anything like that, unless it was a hardware problem.

I would say go with Red Hat. It's probably your best bet; for the most part it is stable and robust as hell.

I have Red Hat ver. 9 or 10 at my house. If you’re interested I can burn you a copy and mail it to ya.

XP is great....considering it's Windows.

I'm digging OS X more and more as time goes on. And having the terminal to play with is very nice

Anywho...Once H3idi is back up and running I'm prolly gonna try FreeBSD. I used it some in college and enjoyed it greatly.

from what ive heard debian is a PITA to install, well essentially i am running debian, just in the form of kubuntu. i tried red hat back in the day (version 7) and didnt really like it that much, i dont think i would use it since they discontinued it so they could work on fedora. i had suse about 10% downloaded and my computer was acting stupid and crashed so i had to restart it

That sucks, if you want to you could try sending me the link that your trying to download from. At work, I was able to download all 4 Fedora DVD iso's w/o an issue. It only took about a half a day too 8)

i started the download for the mandrake dvd iso lastnight when i got back from the trucks and let it go all night, when i woke up this afternoon it was done. so i burned the iso and then had to fight with this POS Abit IS7 mobo (which i thought was decent, definately switching back to my Asus board once i get the bios reflashed) to get it to boot the dvd. i had to disable the boot of the HDD then put it in the master cd/dvd burner and then it proceeded and then gave me an error that it couldnt uncompress the 2nd stage ramdrive and told me that it wa most likely a hardware error. i gave up and i figure ill try it when i swap mobos
