Is that for a rebuild or a whoel new one alltogether. I would just get the current one rebuilt and toss in a new clutch.
Or ebay one and put it in yourself.

What they told my dad that my trans is completly shot and has to be replaced. I think the 2,700 or so is for a new one w/ a clutch & labor. Something like that.

I cant even do it myself, I dont have the car. Its already at All Star transmissions, which is a very reputable transmission shop in N. Jersey. The owner Chris is a big time Chevy guy and defenitly knows his stuff. Its in good hands and I trust that Im getting what Im paying for.

Ok, thats understandable ... but i cant justify paying almost twice as much just because its at a reputable shop. Im not saying this to say you made a bad move by all means. If you feel better having it all done professionally, and don't mind paying more for it, i see your logic.

You should have asked around here to some of the older members or people who have more modified cars.

$2700 seems WAY too damn expensive.

There are many other options.

that is a complete rip off. look around for a used unit, rebuild it yourself, throw in a new clutch, and save the other $200-1500 for beer and speed parts.

			EDIT

Now my dad is saying just Alot of money. Â*He was told it would be cheaper to purchase a remanufactered transmission then to pay the labor to and have all new parts for my current transmission.

Just guaging prices:
A new Richmond goes for about $3,000 through Summit Racing
A Remanufactured one goes for about Â*$1,600 - $1,800
A Centerforce 33lb Flywheel is about $300
A Centerforce Clutch Kit is about $500

And no spare change for a stupid shifter.

have you checked into how much a replacement unit is through GM yet? also check late model dismantlers, if you cna find a low mileage unit for a fair price and DO YOUR OWN INSTALL!!!! you could save a boat load of cash.

The problem is I dont have the car!

I thought it was a simple bent shift fork problem, clutch, throw-out bearing. Â*My parents are paying for this crap, and they wont let me do it myself. Â*I dont have a warentee, tools, space, or skill.

Most likely its comming from GM, their all still around 1,500 - 2,000 for a remanufactured one. Â*Im not buying used **** from anyone ever again, not after the whole Trans Am money pit, If I have to replace something that is important to the drivetrain its going to be new.
