i get a weekly summary from consumer reports. if they'd report it, i'd throw it up here. unfortunately, it seems that the asians are taking quite a beating in the news lately. which suits me fine, since america needs a wakeup call about supporting our economy.

can we please not get into the whole economy thing again. the only thing that has become clear is that no one has a single definition of what "supporting the american economy" actually means.
besides, that "asian" car you are ripping on is built in England.

actually, i think we were quite clear on what supporting our economy means. it's what makes up an american car these days that is the gray area. one thing that has remained clear, however, is that honduh is owned by the japanese. at the end of the day, the money goes back there. it doesn't matter where the car is built.

once again....honda money goes to the men and women that OWN or own stock in honda, not to the country of japan
domestic car money goes to the men and women and the shareholders of the companys, NOT TO AMERICA
so how does padding rich peoples pockets support our economy?
buying a car with an import nameplate that was built here has the company paying AMERICAN workers, AMERICAN taxes and pays americans when a machine breaks down.....then these american workers leave work, and shop in american stores and pay more taxes, and go back to their american homes and pay those taxes...........
that supports the economy more than all these domestic nameplates that sit in a board room in america but oversee all their OUTSOURCED operations that pay foreign workers, foreign taxes and other fees, and than collect the money that they save by not paying americans and line their pockets and buy all their imported suits, fashions, and other things rich people like
but im young, ignorant, and uninformed....so correct me

Weren't the front end on the Ford GTs falling right out? MY boss was talkign about it and to actually get the recall work done they had to come with flat beds and pick the car up, they wouldn't let you drive the car to the dealer.

Nice haha. On a related note I saw a newer Xterra lose its driver side rear tire on RT 46 the other day. He was heading E, I was heading W, all of a sudden i see his car lean over, and slow down real quick, and a tire rolling across the road and went down in a biiiig ditch. It was kinda funny to watch, not gonna lie.

how do recalls work? do manufacturers do it willingly or does the highway association crap make them recall a car they find to be defective? it doesn't make sense that a car company would willingly drop that much money to lose money in repairs. but then again i'm an idiot.

it depends on the percentage of vehicles that have the same problem, a certain percent gets a tsb, a higher percent or a safety issue, and it gets a recall

They made a manufacturing error in the upper and lower front control arms that led to some of them fracturing. Ford also knew that the owners of these cars drive them hard, hence the flatbed deal.

what sticklers for details you guys are.
my point is, and always has been, that we should be bolstering our own economy by "buying american". it's not so easy these days to find the "made in USA" label, i concede that, but if you do search it out then you are paying american workers, american fabrication shops and factories, and helping the worker pay his taxes - which is a whole 'nother can of worms. i feel better when i can put my money down on an american product. it doesn't matter what it is.

it's a touchy subject, as well it should be. i feel so much better that this topic has come under the light, so everyone can take a good look at it. doesn't matter where you stand on the issue - we are talking about it, and that's a good thing.

My 88 TA was one of the model years named in the infmous 3rd gen seatbelt recall. After almost 20 years, GM of course is not making anymore swaps.
Solution = go to the junkyard and pull the black seatbelt replacements that were handed out all those years ago and enjoy. Don't need no stinkin' recall!
