Custom Shops in NJ
Well I plan on doing some more work to my car within the next 6 months and I need to plan out and price out all I need.
In addition to this it would be awesome if you guys could recommend some shops to me to do some work in south jersey or central jersey - I travel from school and to home all the time so it shoudln't be a problem if it's either one
P.S Atlantic city / Princeton are the locations
I would be needed a shop to do suspension work (springs, panhard bar, LCA's, subframe connectors)
and in addition I would need an exhaust shop that does good / mildly not ridonkulously priced header installs... or maybe just some good guys that love pizza + beverages
I have been to mufflex before and they did good work with me, I'm just unsure as to if they do headers or not. Thanks a lot.

What kind of car is this on?? I'm pretty familiar with LT1's and my buddy and I coupled together can get thing done on pretty much anything. We only charge $40 an hour too, about 1/2 to 2/3 the going rate.
We'd be able to install most of the stuff you listed. Let me know.

LS1 header installs aren't too terrible. I, as well as a few others, helped foff667 install pacesetter LTs on his '98.
I am pretty sure Mufflex will install your headers, just not sure what they would charge for that.

lol no problem. So what would you charge for springs, a properly adjusted adjustable panhard rod and bolt in LCA relocs?

I'll do the work for you on the exhaust and suspension. Give me a call whenever you're ready and we can talk about price. In the meantime check out my website to get an idea of what I do. www.RPMRestoAndCustom.com

Springs would be the biggest things, it would be dependent on how long the overall job takes anyway. We charge a flat $40 an hour. LCA Brackets and Panhard Bar is no big thing. Hour, tops. Springs........probably 2-3 hours tops.

to be honest there is no knowlege involved, if it doesnt fit, it inst right. i much rather spend the money on tools that i will have for the rest of my life and figure things out on my own, which i will also know forever, and be much more proud of the accomplishment, then to pay someone to do it. i rather pay someone to look over my shoulder, than to entirely do it with out me. if a company sells a product to work with your setup, the swap has to be able to be done. the only difference between you and the shop, or person doing the work, is experiance, and you will never have it if you dont do it. take a chance, save some money and learn something new. win win situation. i think you could do it, youre up against nuts and bolts, not open heart surgery. i hope i dont sound like a jerk, i am really just trying to inspire you. its much more admiralble to do it yourself too.

That's how I think about it too... and I know lots of others. Can't learn if you don't try - and once you start learning how to do things on your car you wills tart saving yourself looooooooooooots of money

let us know when you wanna do the headers. i am sure you can grab some volunteers from this crowd. we work cheap too, some beer and pizza covers it
i agree with bitchincamaro. having the tools and the experience of completing or at least attepmting the work yourself is much more gratifying. it will also allow you to learn adn save tons of cash down teh road as you start to understand things better.
99% of working on a car is jsut unbolting the old and unwanted and putting the new and shiney in it's place anyway. so as long as you remember righty titey, lefty loosey you can do all of your own bolt on work at home on jackstands
later

all you lack is the knowledge, dude. Â*and that will never come unless you do things yourself, with at most someone looking over your shoulder the first time. Â*i've never been one to pay someone for something i can do myself. Â* Â*let's look at the equipment needed for your projects, just to give you an idea what is involved:

|
this is always a good idea. Â*it lets you know how much you'll have to outlay to get the work done that you want. Â*however, think in terms of tools rather than paying someone $65 an hour to do the work for you.

there are a ton of shops in central/south jersey that we've all used in a pinch or when you've gotten in over your head. Â*it happens sometimes, even to the most knowledgeable. the one i use is H&D on route 9 in Beachwood, 732-240-4862.

|
jack, jackstands, wheel chocks, spring compressor, hand tools. Â*about the only thing that i don't have laying around is a spring compressor. Â*in this example, i would bite the bullet and buy one as opposed to borrowing one from a friend. Â*this probably won't be the last time you need to get into the suspension and then you'll also become one who can lend a spring compressor to a friend when he needs one.
Quote:
and in addition I would need an exhaust shop that does good / mildly not ridiculously priced header installs... or maybe just some good guys that love pizza + beverages
|
the pizza/beverages is always the better option. Â*you might even run into someone that has a welder to weld the exhaust system together for you. Â*that is all i would use a muffler shop for: welding it together. Â*even still, you'd have to go in after them and prep/paint the welds, so they are not the be all/end all solution to your need.
Quote:
I have been to mufflex before and they did good work with me, I'm just unsure as to if they do headers or not. Â*Thanks a lot.
|
most muffler places will install your headers, but that will cost you $65/hour. Â*better spent on pizza/beverages, in my mind. Â*not to mention that you will have a kick-ass time working with some people from the board.
if you've got a basic set of hand tools, like ratchet/sockets in SAE and metric and a wrench set of each as well, then you are well on your way to being able to get most of your own work done. Â*if not, buy stuff as you define a need for it. Â*i've gotten into situations where i've needed a deep socket for a certain task and instead of buying a complete set of deep sockets, i've bought just what i needed to get the job done. Â*that keeps costs per job down, and it builds up your tool chest at the same time.
i hope this helps.

i did the headers in my car by my self and didnt have too much trouble at all other than some bloody knuckles.......
one word of advice...if your on original plugs, DO THEM DURRING THE HEADER INSTALL....
oh and i live nearby the ewing peeps and have a large flat driveway, and every tool you will need for any install.......only down fall is that its a stone driveway so i lay down plywood under the car
