trying to invent the modern DZ 302?
only suggestion i have is to call one of the many mass production rebuilders. they may have parts around and can help you. otherwise you may have to go through GM and buy fresh pieces from the factory
later

I'll give you a hint, if all goes as planned on paper (yeah right) it will rev to 7500 and be pushed by 12PSI of boost, sadly it is a project for next winter but I am just looking for parts to gather up. Also it will be 298CI, but what are ya gonna do right? Plus who else is going to have a 5.0 (actually 4.9 but who wants to affiliate with THAT engine) Gen III motor running around you know?

sounds liek fun, if you need any help with it let me know. please tell me this will be turbo boost.
8.5:1 compression you coudl easily stuff 16 or so PSI into a turbo motor on pump gas. add teh ton of gear you can run to take full advantage of a motor that can rev like that and we are lookin at a really good time.

I am going with the higher C/R and 12 PSI (yes it will be a turbo)because I am not 100% sure how durable a stock 4.8 crank and rods are. From what I hear they are about on par with an LS1 but the whole goal of this is do it as cheaply as possible with as many off the shelf parts as I can find. I plan on documenting everything as I go so everybody can see the possibilities and problems (I am sure there will be plenty) that go with it. Used 4.8 and 5.3 engines are so plentiful and cheap they can be easily found. should be a fun project. The staring blueprint is just about done and I think people will be amazed at how cheaply you can make power with the LS1's little brothers if you don't mind the 60-70Lb weight gain of the Iron block and you can even eliminate that if you can find an SSR block (aluminum 5.3). I think when it is running N/A it will make 350-375RWH easily (probably even more) and when it gets the turbo I expect to see close to or over 500RWH and run my portly 3900 pound car well into the 11's, possibly 10's. Should be fun.
