if i buy a new car and its got one of these in there, you better believe im leaving it on the ground at the dealership. i doubt the aclu would allow them to track position. canadians may put up with this **** but americans never will.http://www.cnn.com/2005/AUTOS/12/01/...eed/index.html

Now the 1/4 mile would be all about who can accelerate to the speed of the nearest road (the GPS would assume thats where you are) the fastest.
Also, another reason carb > FI

I knew one day the man would be shutting us down via satelite.

There are provisions for something very similar in OBD III. Except OBD III would be able to steer your car to the side of the road and shut it down. Things like steer by wire and throttle by wire make this possible. then you'd have to call the dealership to have it reactivated as well has have to deal with a big fine. I dont think that will be in the final version of obd III though. at least I hope not.

teh government already has enougyuh problems dealing with the "black box" that the last 2 gens fo vettes came with. legally they are only for data collection purposes, but the police and insurance companies have already been busted for trying to use the data against people.

And what if you're being chased by someone, you'd want to speed away, but the gas pedal wont let you. its just not safe. the governemt thinks it protecting us from ourselves but its just making more problems.

one of the crime shows i watch had the cops calling some company that collects the data to find the last known position of a car that a criminal was using. now, that's a good use for the system, but someone better get some regulations in place quickly before this gets out of hand.
reminds me of how the people were not using EZpass because they thought the cops would start writing tickets based on the time between toll booths. yet another way for the man to **** us in the ass and make us pay him for the privelege. BOHICA.

just what i was wondering too. and yea all that politically correct ******** pisses me off, me and my dad were watching somethin on tv and the psychologist said that a child had a problem with authority (she gave it some big name something or the other syndrome) and my dad was like: no that little **** just needs his ass beat! my intro to lit professor actually goes against all this politically correct ********, when we read stories she asks us to analyze stuff and shes like dont be afraid to call something what it is. i dont really care who i offend.... as long as i dont get my ass beat in the process

anyway... politically speaking any type of speed limiting device will not make it into cars for the sole reason that insurance/police want us to speed cause they make money off us from tickets and hiked insurance rates

My car has electric throttle and electric steering. By 2007, all GM cars will have Stabilitrac and On Star standard. As for total control, a lot of people dont mind giving that up. If they wrap it in a "Terrorist" type clause, people woudl applaud the idea. No one is too scared about some of the laws passed recently that were said to keep us safe from "them". What if keeping us safe from the Terrorists means that they can control the vehicle of a suicide bomber that is driving a van equiped with On Star OBDIII fuctions, and GM/OnStar has the ability to control the van and shut it down before it reaches its target? Wouldnt you want that to keep you safe?

What if keeping us safe from the Terrorists means that they can control the vehicle of a suicide bomber that is driving a van equiped with On Star OBDIII fuctions, and GM/OnStar has the ability to control the van and shut it down before it reaches its target? Wouldnt you want that to keep you safe? | holy **** they are making an obd-III?

the government could do the job right in the first place and find the terrorists before they become a threat.
