Unhappy Problem number 3.

I cant thank u guys enough for the advice u gave me on the heater core. This 50 degree weather made me say screw it and just bypass it by connecting the two hoses coming out of the heater control valve. i dint know if that was the correct place to union it, but nothing has blown up yet. But, i do need some more advice. On the 10th me and a friend installed a "used" aka junkyard T5 trans in my 87 GTA. We also unjammed a peice of pinion gear that was stuck out of the rear end, so technically it is missing about 30 percent of one gear, and i think theres 11 on the small gear (i have 3.45s).

Anyway, when we drive the car now there is a rattling almost like a bad input shaft on the trans. but i know this is not the case because i tested it along with the output shaft by hand turning it through all the gears and checking for play. It sounds like a MAJOR trans problem, but the trans goes into gears smoothly and holds them nicely through the rpm range. I can also feel a vibration in the shifter that goes along with the very loud rattle. My friend says it may not be the trans but the rear end making all that noise and sending noise/ vibration through the driveshaft and up the shifter. It also seems to make the sound while the clutch is engaged sometimes which leads me to believe it is the rear. I'm very sorry for the rant but weve been working so hard on this car that i get upset everytime something else goes wrong. Thanks guys.

did you have any vibrations before with the other trans?
the rear could be doing possibly.
when you swapped the trans, did you touch the clutch setup or pilot bearing?
is the driveshaft straight for sure,
just a few quick questions to try to help you track it down.

driveshaft is perfectly straight, i replaced the pilot bearing with a brand new one, and picked the best clutch / basket set up out of the ones i had laying around(looks almost new a little wear). and i used a better looking flywheel bc the one that was in there was cracked, but the new one just had a few tiny little high spots.

If you don't see any there, thirdgen.org's classifieds usually have several 9 bolts for sale.

If you go 4th Gen rear keep in mind it is bigger, it sticks out about an inch and half on either side compared to the 3rd gen. If you put 4th Gen wheels on it it will stick out past your wheel wells a bit
