is this the fuel filter?
Finally started on the camaro today, dropped the rear and got the exhaust out, I'm gonna try to drop the tank tomorrow so I can change my fuel pump. While under there I noticed this..
and a little further towards the rear of the car there is a black piece with a rubber fuel line going to it and some other wires running over there. I had a pic, but I deleted all my pics off the camera before I checked to see which ones transfered over to my folder..stupid move. Anyway, is that thing in the above picture the filter? Seemed a little big to me.

im thinking it could be the wires going to your fuel sending unit that you see, the **** a ma call it vavle lol dont know the real name but it lets the extra pressure out of the tank if needed not shure what else it could be.

True, but if you read his post, you'll see that he was describing the EVAP and asking what it was.

Man, look at the crud on those lines. I'd hit that with some PB Blaster before trying to change it.

It's only surface rust, and I'm not changing it till after I install the new pump and run the car for a bit, I Figure any loose **** will get trapped in the old filter. Won't be for a while though, while everything is down and out of the way I'm gonna repaint under there and deal with some rust before I get my SFC's welded up. Since it will be an upcoming thing, any suggested replacement filters? or should I go with a stock replacement?

AFAIK there isn't a normal "high performance" replacement filter. Just a nice new one from local parts shop.

I'd still hit it with pb blaster. Where it treads into the filter & where the line goes into the nut.

i would replace the filter before you run the new pump, dirty fuel filters burn up fuel pumps because they starve the pump making it have to work harder to get the fuel to the injectors.

How would it burn it up? It's an intake pump, the filter is after the pump. If anything, wouldn't it be hard to push through which would have the pump working less because there would be no where for the fuel to go? Someone recommended changing the filter after you run the car for a bit so any loose crap from the tank after being shaken around with the removal and installation (if there is any) could be caught in the old filter..I was just going by that

the pump has to work harder to push the fuel through, it causes a restriction not good for a high pressure pump. been there broke that if you know what i mean.
