anyone up for a gear install
anyone up for helping out in a gear install this weekend thats if justin can get the gears down to me? I already have the axles and what not out since i finally bought my rear brake setup. thanks in advance.

I don't have a clue how to setup gears, however I'll work something out to get them to you.

Gears aren't something you can exactly do in your drive-way. You need someone with alot of experience and the right tools.

if you want the gears done right you should just send them out to have done. Are the gears used? I set up rears that are meant to last 500.000 mile towing 80,000 pounds on the freeways and beleive me a gear swap is no task for an untrained person but Practice makes perfect Buy a book.

How much do you think a shop would charge?, id hate to have to pull the rear again but this would be the best time to do it.

if you have no idea what you are doing, definatly do not swap your gears... this isnt something to play around with.. pay a shop or someone who was done them before to do it.. there are alot of tolerances that have to be checked and set. otherwise it is going to sound horrible and probaly just blow up after a few miles

You doing them in your 86 or 98 Z? is the car originally a 2 or 3 carrier?
If it is your 98Z and if it's an A-4 your car came with 2:73's unless it is a 6-speed and it came with 3:42 , if it is a 2:73 you'll need a motive ring spacer to make the jump up to a 3 carrier

They will be going in the 86 but the rear in the 86 is out of jw's ta.

Justin- who was that guy who did craigs rear? his name is on the tip of my tonge but i can quite remember it.
Anyway justin knows a guy who is good and craigs rear has held up for a while now.

Phil, that was Paul Mara. I dunno if he's still taking that type of work though. He's been travelling the country lately with his kid (his kid is racing quads).
Yes, the gears are used. Supposedly only 500 miles on them. I've heard people say that if you install used gears without setting them up exactly as they were before that they would be ruined, but the 4.10s in Craig's rear came out of camaroracer1992's car and his rear has held up fine in over 100 passes and prolly 15k-20k street miles.

Definitely have someone do them who knows what they are doing. Thats why I looked for a whole rear to swap instead of just gears.
