island beach state park:
$10 per person to get in on a weekend
$55 group picnicking
they have daily programs of an educational nature in july and august, there is a mile of water front designated as the "bathing"(pretty sure they mean swimming) area that is staffed with a lifegaurd mid-june through early september, and they also have a bunch of other points of interest around the park(mostly cool sounding educational stuff)
the site also shows the parking areas as being fairly small, i seem to remember some of them being easily large enough for us though. i will check into this further.
i don't see a policy listed on the park home page, but i am pretty sure all state parks do not allow alchohol.
p.s. somebody buy a bunch of t-shirts so we have money in teh club fund to pay the fees

Per person or per car? Any time I went it was always per car.
And we don't need alcohol to have a good time. If you want alcohol, go out to a bar afterwards.
And if it's $55 to picnic no matter what the size of the group, why don't we have everyone chip in $2 if they plan to go? I have a feeling a beach meet would bring a LOT of people, you could probably get away with $1 each. I would be more than willing to chip in a couple bucks to pay $55...at least it's not the amount that some restaurants want for a deposit.

the site said it was per person.
"everyone chip in" method of collecting money, it never works. people say they will come and don't pay or just want to show up with the money when the fees have to be paid ahead of time.

Orrr...we could all just meet up at the beach, I find that much easier. Pay your way in, and enjoy.

I was thinking along the same lines as liz in the other thread. meet up at some place near the beach, cruise to the beach and park anywhere you can find a spot. then we all meet back up on the sand.
