Whoa, you want to run the pipes under the axle? No way I would do that. Save your money for other mods and just stick with a decent cat-back. Change the muffler if you need to.

Why not? A LOT of people are running it that way and they're not having problems.

Yes.

There really aren't many clearance issues as odd as it may seem.

If you think about it, under the axle is the absolute best place to loose ground clearance. If you go over a speed bump, naturally your wheels will hit it, which will obviously be right by the axle and raise the pipes =p

Uh...if I recall, the back end of a car has suspension, and it compresses when you go over bumps. If you go over a speed bump, the rear will compress, bringing the ground MUCH closer to the exhaust. I want to see a picture of it. There is a reason why every car maker in the world as well as every aftermarket manufacture of exhausts have it going over the axle. And what happens when the car lifts and the suspension extends all the way out? Wont it push down on the exhaust?
Way way way too much talk about something as simple as an exhaust system. If you are worried about flow, Im sure that a nice 4 inch system from Mufflex would work just enough. anything more, its a race car and who gives a eff about exhaust.

u only lose ground clearnce if u run over something in the middle of the road,if u go over a speed bump the pipes will go up with the rear axle,my turbo inlet and down pipe run under my front crossmember and i have never bottemed them out on anything, and we have some pretty ****** roads around here, when i go over speedbumps/etc the pipes go up with the car since they are pretty much on the centerline of the tiires

Here's one thread of many discussing this very subject.

No way I would run pipes under the axle. With the crooked speed bumps at work and the uneven curbs going into parking lots they would get hit gauranteed. If it's a race only car then who cares but a driver will end up hitting something and doing damage.

simply put, no. large single set ups have shown jsut as much power as duals without all the hassle and expense of fitting under teh car. 3rd and 4th gens have plenty of space for up to a 4inch single with a good y-pipe.
mufflex makes mail order kits or you can jsut go to their shop in hamilton and have the whole ypipe and cat back built right in the car so it is perefect.

but I think you guys are still missing the reason of why i'm switching. I stated before its purely for sound. I could give two hoots if I pick up 5 HP. Is it worth it for the increased sound quality!!

Social Networks:

even if its purely for sound its a crap idea. On a stock motor true duels sound like total ass. go to www.ls1sounds.com and look for clips of stock internal motors, your not going to like it. If you have a huge cam then maybe.

And as far as a single being too "raspy" for your car you might as well buy another F-body because that is just the way the LS1 is.

It's not the fact that "true duals" sound like ****...I guess it's opinion but I think a lot of the setups sound great even on stock motors...its all about the choice in mufflers.
