Possible animal cruelty across the street, need advise...

Alright so Ive bought my house about a year and a half ago. Across the street is a house that has been vacant for atleast that long, and from what Ive heard from my neighbors, even a year before I moved in.

People pretty much take good care of the houses around here... except the one across the street from me. The house and property look like ****, the front "cannopy" is falling down, the roof is ****ed up, **** in the yard, a Saturn that hasnt moved ever... just looks horrible. But the worst part is the two little dogs that live there.

Apparently an old lady lived there... she had two dogs, and I can only guess that whe she died she actually willed the house to the dogs until they die. So people come once a day for about 5 minutes, feed them and let them out in the yard for literally 2-3 minutes and thats it. Thats no life for an animal IMHO. Sometimes you can see them in the main window barking and looking out, and I really feel bad for them. One time last year when the tree fell on my pool during the wind storm, their front door kept blowing open (that tells you the shape of the house) so I went over to close it, and the poor things were just coweing in the corner.

Is there anything that can be done? Isnt it illegal to leave animals alone like that? I was thinking of calling the SPCA or what ever, but I want to make sure: a- what theyre doing is illegal, and b- that the dogs would be put into a shelter up for adoption, not killed.

Why dont you contact the spca and ask if it is legal anymously. Thats fed up. If worse comes to worse you could find some one who wants the dogs and then take them. I know my dad would if something like this happened around his house.

Its sad... but what are they going to do... charge a dead old lady with animal cruelty? unless....... there is a third party involved with the house, then there is some animal cruelty charges.

I dont think its willed to the animals, I dont even know if thats possible, but it seems like it lol. Who WILL be accountable will be the beneficiaries of the will, probably the ones who stop by every day. There also could be a clause in the will that states they cant sell the house until the animals have passed... who knows.

definitely no way for an animal to live. I can't believe that the family members would take the time out of their days to go and feed/let them out but wouldn't put them up for adoption... and this has been going on for this long, its sick. Keep us updated. I know the people that run the SPCA in my county and I'm sure if it came down to it they would take the dogs home with them, they used to have over 40 dogs because they ran a sled dog team, I'm sure 2 more wouldnt be an issue.

Houses and money can be willed to animals. Funny aint it. They can pay taxes through a lawyer I believe. It comes out of the estate which is left to the animal. A good example is Betty White is going to leave her fortune to her animals.

Yes I believe this is could very well be illegal. I watch alot of animal cops on animal planet . Animals should be treated like us but we all know some people could care less about other beings, let alone an animal. i am glad you got ahold of someone, even though there might not be any charges brought up, they will be taken away and given to good homes (hopefully).

Yeah, contacting the SPCA was definitely the right to do. Imagine how hot it must've been in there all summer, and who knows how long it's been since they've seen a vet. The website for the NJSPCA is: http://www.njspca.org in case anyone else ever needs it. The 800 number is at the bottom of the page.
