A little help
I was am going to overhaul my 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans am it has a CSB 305 with a 4 bbl i was wondering if anyone had some do's and don'ts for me. I was thinking of either rebuilding the current motor or droping a 350. Well if anyone has any advice you know what to do thanks.8)

For the cost of rebuilding your 305 you may be close to or even over the cost of a building a 350.

ok even tho their is very little to the computer would i need anything for the conversion
and wouldn't i need to upgrade the radiatior and im thinking of converting it from and auto to a 5 speed (and i know it's going to be hard but it a project not a driving car)

if you go to a straight carb, youll also need a new distributor with a vac. advance. The electronic carb/ecm setup currently in your car uses the carb and stock distributor together to make adjustments, without one part, the other is useless or impaired.

No T5 behind an engine with balls. TKO or T56.

The stock T-5 is rated at about 300 ft-lb of torque capacity. Looks like you lucked out.

if it comes down to buying vs rebuilding an engine, go with a GMPP crate motor. for the costs of rebuilding an engine reliably at a machine shop that often only gives you a very short and limited warranty if any at all, you can get a bullet made with all brand new parts and a 3yr/36k mile warranty.
it also invovles way less down time since a lot of the crate motors you will just need to hook up a few things to get running.
the only way "building" a motor is really worth it is if you are going for something all out and need to pick and choose parts yourself.

ive got just over 300tq on my t5...nothing bad yet...would like a t56 though so it really doesnt matter if mine blows up. but def. get a 350. 305's are just a waste of time IMO.
