unfortunately cops can still give you tickets if they feel your speed has become unsafe. i think safe is a relative term but thats just me

yeah, Montana was 'safe and prudent', but that only applied to certain areas and during certain hours, then it was 70 or 75...

last I heard, the 'no limit' was lifted...

i really don't see the point of a limit on a well maintained 4 lane highway where you can see for miles as long as the car is built for it. Americans think going 140 is nuts, yet in Germany, 140 will get you flashed to get the hell outta the way, lol

Florida "Standard" Speed Limits

Municipal Speed Areas30Business or Residential Area30Rural Interstate70*Limited Access Highways70All Other Roads and Highways55*School Zones20
*The 55 MPH maximum speed limit is still in effect in Florida except where otherwise posted. *Speed limits are 70 MPH on some rural interstate highways. Speed limits may be changed on other multi-lane highways and in areas where the conditions require lower speeds. Drivers should not assume because the area appears to be a particular urban, municipality, business or highway area that the speed is the standard or expected speed zone. Observe and obey the posted speed signs as there may be frequent changes from area to area along the selected roads or highways.

i can think of a couple people who have cars capable of 140 who i would find unsafe to be driving at those speeds. myself included...

Oh I agree with you. Speed and safe driving aren't mutually excluded. Weaving in and out of lanes at high speeds is definately dangerous and stupid.

I've never been to Montana so only reporting what I heard.

As for Florida highways, anyone who has traveled Alligator Alley, all the out to / from Naples knows you can't drive too fast there. The alligator "speed bumps" will kill you and everyone around you pretty quick. They don't call it alligator alley for nothing. Of course, its been over 15 years since I've driven that regularly so maybe they found a way to fix that problem. Stay under 70 and watch out for sunglare in the mornings, preventing you from seeing walking handbags on the road.
