Does autozone give jobs to anyone that walks in?

I went to autozone today to get a belt for the mustang, cause the smog pump seized last night on 287 and killed the belt. so i figure out what size i need, 84.5 inches...walk in to autozone and this 20-22 year old girl comes up and asks if she can help. i say i need an 84 and a half inch belt, 6 groove...and she looks at me like i have 2 heads. then she turns and walks to the computer, and asks me what car its for...HELLOOOO I JUST TOLD YOU THE SIZE I NEED, AND BELT PART NUMBERS = THEIR SIZE! holy s***, i wanted to slap her. youd think autozone would offer some training or something. so i had to go back by their shelves and look for the belt myself, because she doesnt know how the numbers work for belts.

anyway, they didnt have the one i needed so i went to advance auto parts across the street, and the kid there knew exactly what i needed. and its a good dayco belt, instead of the duralast crapola that autozone has.

cliffs: advance ftw, autozone ftl

yeah the 2wd/4wd thing is asked for a lot of things. when it seems useless, sometimes its because the part theyre looking up is included in a section that has other parts where 4wd would matter

id get stuff at autozone when i was building that monte. id say 87 monte carlo ss...350 engine..5 spd manual...tpi... theyd get confused very quickly, so to make it simple id say "ok lets pretend its a 92 camaro z28 and go from there". it would take them a moment to understand that. then the 350/T5 would cause issues again, so id be like "put in 305"...

Autozone sucks a**! When I was hurting for cash last year (wife was outta work, two kids, mortgage, etc.) I applied at Autozone for a part-time job just to make some extra $$. They never even called me! You'd think they would want a semi-intelligent person with a college degree and knowledgeable about cars to come and work there! Idiots.

Again, Autozone FTL.

I have been asked if my car had air conditioning when I went in to buy brake pads.

I wish I was kidding.

Yeah i worked at Advanced... it was one of the worse jobs ever. The building was only like three years old and had a crack in the outer wall that you could see light through when you were outside. That place was so cheap. The computer system that inventoried all the parts in the store had a 20% accuracy rate. I would have people call in then they would show up and i look like the idiot because the system cant count. And Advance holds no training on looking up parts except for them looking on the computer and stocking the shelves. They lie they cheat and i Hate 'em... They stink!!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. I had almost 20 years experience working auto parts part time, and Autobone never even called me after I applied. It was a really sucky day when Car Parts sold out to the 'Bone...

You sound like you worked at the one in Hazlet.

Another thing, ex gf worked at Adavance, and she had a lot of training to go through for parts.
Large corp parts places are a 50/50 hit/miss. Sometimes you get someone that knows exactly what you are talking about, some times its a crap shoot.

Social Networks:

I've worked at both Adv and AZ and I wanted to slap my coworkers half the time...years later, i do armed security at Advance and I still wanna slap them, lol

"yeah, I'd like this bulb please" (brings the bulb to counter). instead of looking at the bulb (if not memorized by now) and walking to the bulb display and handing it to the customer....said employee says those words we hate to hear as they gaze at that effing computer, "what year....blah blah blah"

meanwhile, from across the store....i hear the exchange, look at the bulb, go get it, bring it over and plop it on the counter without a word (while they are asking 2 or 4 door or what color carpet is in the vehicle?) and go back to my post.

I used to work at a car accessory maunfacturer taking phone orders. I swear on all that is holy i had a coworker that asked '2 or 4 door' for Corvettes, Camaros, Broncos, Coupe DeVilles, Eldorados and other no-brainers on the car world...

ok, i'm done rambling, but I could go on and on.
