I'm using an '87 TPI harness in my Monte. I'm not sure what the correct location for each part is from the factory, but the oil-pressure Switch is a 2-wire weather-pak connection, and the Sending Unit is a single-wire attached to a large canister. And you are correct, if the switch is unplugged, the fuel pump won't run. Conversely, if that switch is dead, it will cause the fuel pump to run all the time, even with the key off (BTDT).
In my car, I put the Switch on the side of the block, above the oil filter, and the sending unit behind the intake manifold. It fit better that way with my mechanical clutch linkage.
